2018 and I can report they are no better.
I've sent my phone in for the same problem 3 times within a year, each time their fix doesn't last long. Third time they notice a scratch to edge of phone screen and announce that this is external damage, that this voids the warranty and that they "can't do partial repairs" so my only options are to pay for full refurbishment or pay for them to return my broken phone to me (with the problem they have failed to fix twice already). Not impressed!

This seems to be a major issue. They have outright lied and damaged my phone to avoid repairing as they've clearly botched a software release? This thread shows countless very specific examples of how they've done it...

I sent in a Sony Z3 Compact about 15 months ago, they couldn't get parts, so sent me a refurb in plain box, which appeared in reality to be a new phone.

I found them fine, but I didn't hear some horror stories before sending it in. Thing the whole process took about 3 weeks.
