Even if you pay it in full now the marker will remain because it is an accurate record of what happened at the time.
You don't seem to understand E-On hold all the cards here. You claim to be in finance but don't appear to understand this. Weird.0 -
only way to do it is as I've just posted. I've got the mitigating circumstance - they never wrote to me, they should have. I hope this can be settled amicably.Lioness_Twinkletoes wrote: »I'd suggest any money you might be spending on legal advice you use to clear your debt with E-On.
Legal advice is a waste of time and money.0 -

That "fact", what leads you to think that it's true? Are you sure that it's not just what you'd prefer.
What is definitely "fact" is that your credit report sounds to be correct, and that you are asking them to change it so it does not reflect the true state of affairs. I hope that they don't, as other companies need to know what happened.
However understandable your inability to pay is, that does not alter the fact that it exists. Your credit report is not a judgement on your morals, it is a statement of truth.0 -

I've decided to write a little bit here because I can see how much passion you have about the situation. As discussed before they DO NOT have to write to you to tell you they have put a late payment marker on your credit file. It will have been in the small print T&C's when you agreed to get supplied to them.
That being said I do understand your anger. If you had formally agreed a payment plan of £30 a month then Eon would mark your file as AP. The fact your paying £30 makes no difference as you are not paying the contracted amount so legally are behind on your payments.
If you pay it all off on credit card Eon are not allowed to change the previous 6 months of your credit report. They MUST by law display an accurate and true statement of your account.
You do have a few options:
1. Pay the money off and then the account will be settled. Contact the credit agencies and put a notice of correction on your file to detail why this happened.
2. Continue to fight this and end up with a red D on your file. I promise you that whoever you complain to will advise you that Eon are following procedure and well within the law. The FOS will rule with them and the delay in getting this response will ruin your file further.
I know this isn't what you want to hear and I hate laying the truth on the line but I feel time is of the essence with you and maybe you need to hear it.
I am in the military and one month didn't get paid at all and 4 direct debits bounced. I was in Afghanistan at the time so didn't notice for about 2 weeks. It was sorted quickly as soon as I found out but later my credit report had 4 1's on it. I too complained but they told me the payment was late which it was through no fault of my own. It took me 14 months, 12 letter inc one from my local MP for them to remove them. That was for a genuine reason. Ive been there and no that unfortunately you will have no chance at getting this altered.Current DebtNet Monthly Pay £2550[STRIKE]Barclaycard £0 / £2500 (23.9%)[/STRIKE][STRIKE]Lloyds Credit Card Settled[/STRIKE]

I sympathise with your situation Andy.andydiysaver wrote: »hi all
I used to live in a rental and paid eon direct debit monthly, then moved, they took reading it was 2k over. I disputed the charge and went to the ombudsman but the ombudsman ruled in eons favour and that's that. and the charge is mine to pay - I don't want any sanctimonious "I'd never let that happen to me "/"I told you so" types because it is what it is , I have a job, I'm respectable, and I always pay my bills
Can I ask, how did the 2k bill come about.. was your monthly direct debit not enough?
Or was it when you moved, the next occupant was using 'your' fuel?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -

The Ombudsman has agreed with Eon, not you. If Eon had done anything wrong, do you honestly think the Ombudsman would have done that ?0 -
what I think happened was near that - my ex housemate and me ended on bad terms as I got a girlfriend when he wanted the lad about town housemate, and he had a bereavement. I'm fairly sure he understated the bill on the way out, I was too stupid to check and therefore when I contacted the ombudsman, I lost.I sympathise with your situation Andy.

It does stack up I have a point as I had Eon install a replacement meter, which was in for months, then I calculated my daily usage, which was substantially lower than the daily usage on the bill. The ombudsman didn't understand that argument, and I was a victim of my own ignorance at the time in working away so much and just paying monthly for an easy life. The contract was only electric, I paid monthly direct debits throughout of between 30 and 60 quid, basically they called for it, I paid it. I work away a lot, and again I was naïve, I'm the first person to acknowledge this so the blamer types on these forums can't tell me anything I'm not already aware of
then I moved, shut it down and have paid 30 a month since
- without fail
so I call them Friday and get complaints, nice understanding sounding woman, however my cynicism is mounting, I can't help but think she's just paid to show they've used "due process" and next week the hard liners will be back in touch with a response. I clearly stated I hadn't been told, she clearly stated the wrong address the letter went to, I clearly stated that I'd given my current address ages ago and if they'd notified me I would have acted, I reiterated my current address, and she's going to try her best
...so we'll see. Really looking for a bit of understanding on part of eon really - esp as the thing I'm offering is a full payment which I'll pay interest on. I'll post here next week , let everyone know how it goes. I anticipate a hard line response, I hope otherwise because I've been fairly decent throughout the process. I don't think all of that bill is mine, I think my old mate did a number on me, but ombudsman said it is so it is and I'm taking responsibility..0 -
do you honestly think the ombudsman gets it right 100% of the time , are pure as the driven snow and are infallible or do you think they're underfunded and have too many cases a day? also, do you think going on threads and telling people who are absolutely 100% candid about their own mistakes can learn anything from being told they only have themselves to blame? The Ombudsman has agreed with Eon, not you. If Eon had done anything wrong, do you honestly think the Ombudsman would have done that ?
