Can anyone answer this question please:

Assuming you go down the normal route of applying (ie: non-priority) - and send off your tokens and your cheque - How long can you reasonably expect to hear the "result"? (I Know in the t&c it states 29th Aug) - but generally, what is the expected timeframe - also, when would they cash your cheque in relation to this (ie: if my chq was cashed today, could I reasonably expect to get a letter within 14 days?).

It seems very difficult if you were to get a 7th Sept holiday - to only get it confirmed on 29 Aug?? - esp if you need to book trains/planes/automobiles!!!

    Thanks for your perceived assistance:beer:

We posted our application after the postal strike, Saturday,7th and our cheque was cashed on Tuesday, 17th July.
The confirmation letter arrived this morning, we got our fifth choice of holiday park on our fifth choice of date.
I can't believe how quick it was and how lucky we were.
    Hope this helps!

Hi, I haven't had a reply from Dee yet as to whether she wants the token I have .... If this is your FIRST ever Sun holiday, the token off the priority form I have will be fine for you. However, I will give Dee till tomorrow morning just to be civil as I did offer it to her first ;)
PM me a name/address to post it to, and I will gladly send it to you in the post tomorrow provided I've not heard from Dee first.
    Regards, Denise xxx

Thanks for all the replys I received, I have now got my confirmation and am none too happy.

I got my first choice dates - which was good - but only my 5th choice park. And there the problems start.

It's in South of France - and cannot believe how much airport transfers are from the nearest airport. On top of that, for the dates we are booked for, Easy***'s prices are very pricey (for them anyway!) - but alas - these are obstacles to be overcome!

But what has astonished and surprised me are the extra charges imposed by the park:

£15 insurance to cover "accidental damage to your accomodation"
Then, you will be required to hand over a £50 cash deposit to park which will cover for any cleaning costs required when you leave - someone will check when you leave (assuming they are available I guess!!!) - and then you might get your £50 back.
As well as all the usual stuff that is expected: ents passes (£15), Linen charge (£14), Welcome pack (£6)

My £9.50 holiday is turning into a £950 holiday.

Is it worth challenging the Sun to either get my money back or get changed to a more suitable park (my first choice park was in Spain - 6 miles away from a Ryanair served airport, 2nd 3rd and 4th choices were all in UK) - since unless I missed it in the small print, I was totally unaware of these "insurance costs" or the need to provide a "£50 deposit".
  • oh bad luck. i think it's non-refundable really, and i doubt they would change it but worth a try. i was going to try for a spain holiday last year until i looked at the cost of flights and decided against it!! i don't know anything about france, hopeless at geography but is it possible to use the channel tunnel? maybe even use tesco vouchers for that?

you can say no to the welcome pack and linen hire if you wish, but it might be a pain to lug sheets etc. over there with you. ents passes are probably optional too, but if you want them then they should be the price mentioned in the sun's information. the deposit you should get back when you leave, but i haven't been to one of those parks so i don't know how it works - if there are people available to sort it out when you check out or if it is refunded to you later on somehow.

maybe somebody else on here has been abroad and can help you further.

I got my confirmation today, one of the Isle of Wight resorts which I was pleased about, but only for a weekend, not half term which was slightly disappointing.

What is miffing me though, is that they are asking for the entertainment , service charge and linen money by return, and I thought I would have until the holiday to budget for that. That makes this month a bit tighter than I had bargained for.
  • when's the holiday? the one's i've been on all ask for the balance to be paid at least weeks before the holiday, but if it's a last minute holiday they want it asap.

I have just received my holiday - weekend in November at St. Margarets Holiday Park in Kent, it has come with an additional cost of £35.50, made up of:
    Park facility passes £12.00
    Linen Charge £10.00
    Service charge £13.50

Do we have to pay for the passes, we are unlikey to need to use any of the facilities, just hubby and I going and intend to use just as a base for touring ?
