Virgin Atlantic flight VS 064

My small party of 4 were delayed at Havana airport on March 6th by 24 hours due to flight crew being ill.
I have looked at the exclusions and it seems that the crew being ill can be used a s an extraordinary condition to refuse compensation, however, the words that complete the statement include "in the air"
Is there anyone else out there who was on this flight?
Has anyone claimed and had a reply from Virgin?
Does anyone know of any similar circumstances where a claim has been upheld?
I feel very alone and Virgin Atlantic has dismissed our initial claim out of hand.
I will be trying the next step and seeking redress through the courts.
