Club Lloyds Account: utterly useless

Been trying for several days to open one of these online.

Fill in the form (a couple of pages' worth), hit Submit, watch the Javascript thingy whirr round for a few seconds, and then..."There has been a technical error".

Tried a different browser, different computer, tried it with my wife's details - always the same result.

Went into a branch. No you can't have a paper form which you can post in, you have to do it right there in the branch, it takes about an hour and you have to sit through an 8-minute video! WHAAAT? Do I look like an imbecile who needs a video to explain a bank account to me, and who has an hour to waste over something that should take 2 minutes online?

So she calls up someone supposedly technical. "Yes we know there's a problem with the website, and no we don't know when it will be fixed". SO TAKE IT OFF THE BLOODY WEBSITE THEN! How many man-hours are being wasted nationally by people filling in online forms that are doomed to failure?

What a useless excuse for a bank. Small wonder they can't turn a profit.

An 8 minute video? I'm intrigued how they could fill 8 minutes.

There's always one isn't there, or in this case two. "I'm alright so there's no problem".

Yeah that's right, I'm just making it up. That's why the guy on the 'phone said "yes we know there's a problem". Or didn't you bother to read that bit?

And it's not Java, it's Javascript, or perhaps you don't know the difference?

Dozens and dozens of people have opened this account online since Sunday with no problems. Suggest you try setting it up over the phone if you cannot fix you PC (which is the likely cause of your issues)

Calm down dear, It's only a website :p

Utterly useless starting a new thread to just have a rant, you could have just put it in the 'Club Thread' or picked up the phone and sorted it in the time you took to rant. Some times things are sooo simple !

There's always one isn't there. "I can't do it, so there's a problem their end".

Probably a system failure, or a total failure by the bank. Who knows?

A bad workman always blames his tools ... an even worse one blames someone else's tools ;)
  • I had the same issue too - I don't think it specified a java/javascript error, just said there was a problem submitting it and I needed to go into branch. When I went into branch they said I couldn't apply over the phone, don't know how true this is though. And they have no idea why I couldn't do it online - my partner had no issue, so wasn't a computer issue.

And yes, it was a pain... 8 minute video (literally like a sales pitch video of the enhancements) and lots of double checking that I am aware of stuff. Then had to go through the value added accounts. Checking contact details, checking salary, blah blah blah. The guy I was speaking to knew I knew my stuff, so didn't make it too painful, but they have a certain amount of form filling they need to do to ensure they aren't mis-selling these days. Took probably 25 minutes (and this guy was pretty good at skimming over stuff even though he probably shouldn't!)

Still worth it to get an extra percent of interest, so I'm not going to grumble too much...

Sorry dude, in this context it would be 'Java', or your Java Runtime Environment to be precise, not Javascript, the programming language.

But only if you know the difference of course

The Lloyds website does not use Java - he was referring to the little swirling circle which comes up which I believe uses Javacript. It definitely does not use Java and so does not use the Java Runtime Environment.

But this really is beside the point.
