keep tapping F2 or Del key to access bios when powering on the lappy, then change boot order to boot from cd drive first. Place vista disk in tray, then exit bios and save settings. The machine will restart, and should boot from the dvd and start to install vista ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is...... ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

if you have used DBAN it will have wiped the full HDD that means there is no recovery Partition so it will need a full clean install0

thanks guys.....had the power jack in the lappy when trying f2 ... nothing happened...took power jack out and f2 worked and is now installing from recovery discs..... hopefully installs successfully....though sometimes they put proprietary markers on the hard drives and ive dbanned so may not be there....plan be linnux0

often with recovery disks especially the manufacturer provided ones these require data thats been stored on a recover partition. OP are these self created disks or Manufacturer supplied ones please
never mind just seen your latest post0

Brand name and model number of laptop?
There is never a 'proprietary marker on the HDD' that isn't contained on the recovery discs.0

if you used the manufacturer's recovery disks, more often than not they re-create a recovery partition on the hdd as part of the reinstall. Keep the disks safe in case of future need ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is...... ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
