My only concern is I'm speaking from experience here ( although not mine close friend) it's addictive easiness and at the start she like you bought a cooker , desperate and couldn't cook for family poor credit etc etc.. Now has two lap tops a sofa , she pays around £80 a week !! And you know what if she went in the shop found a nice phone she could have that too !! I'm not saying everyone the same, here I'm sure people are a lot more sensible but to me it's just too easy, xx please save don't be tempted
Yeah it was around 104 weeks weekly payments for a laptop! couldn't believe it!
I'd sooner eat posh beans for my 2nd hand laptop brought outright from a place that also allows in store installments if you can't afford it in one locally at no added cost while the markup could be high, you can say that of all credit and get hands burnt though likes of independent buying, my beans certainly wouldn't amount to all them weeks, that's just maddness0 -

OP you need to find a way of increasing your income. You may want to pursue your own business in IT repair and you may find a way to make that work, but whilst you are building it you need a back-up.
3 Weeks without work when you don't have a washing machine just isn't viable. I'd get a part-time job to supplement your income whilst your business is developing.
Leave the washing machine just now, prioritise increasing your income, and use the laundrette or handwash for a couple of weeks.0 -
Don't go to Brighthouse. To sum up all the points above:
- they charge 2-3 times more on the 'cash price' than other stores (so even if you went in and bought it outright, you'd still be paying well over the odds)
- they then charge 67% APR variable (so only 50% of applicants get even this rate) for their finance
- They have some very sharp practices, including making it hard to compare models, encouraging people to spend more than they can afford, reclaiming goods, allegedly not performing affordability studies. I could go on...
I don't think it's right or fair to judge people for thinking that they look like a good bet though. BH deliberately target and make themselves look attractive to the poor and vulnerable in society. The OP is asking a legitimate question and their advertised weekly payments do look affordable.
A poster mentioned looking into a credit union... I would say it's well worth finding your local CU (https://www.findyourcreditunion.co.uk). CUs frequently lend to people that wouldn't get a loan from a bank and you could then shop around and get the best deal. They would charge much less than the rates you'd get from Brighthouse or a payday lender and because you can also save with them, you wouldn't need to borrow for the next emergency.Worker in, and passionate advocate of, the credit union movement. I don't speak for the sector or for any individual CU. My opinions & experiences are my own.
Search MSE for more info about CUs and find ones that cover your area by searching online for 'find your credit union'.0 -
Instead of paying out extortionate amounts to BH it would seem to me that the money might be better spent advertising your repair business. Thus enabling you to have a regular income.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Sell the iPad and buy a washing machine from a regular outlet.DFW Nerd 0350 -
mato198808 wrote: »Basically I'm after some peoples opinions. Should we suck it in and struggle for a few months or pay an easily affordable amount a week and problem solved but pay over the odds for the privilidge
I would suggest that it isn't that easily affordable as one could have saved beforehand if it was that easy. If you haven't been able to save then how do you think you can pay the amount you couldn't save, and then add interest to it?

If you got a second hand washing machine and kept it going for a couple of years whilst you squirrelled away the money you would have paid out to Bright House had you gone for one of the over-inflated Beko then you would be able to afford a cracking Miele washing machine that comes with a 10 year warranty as standard. Easier said than done I know.0
