Smelly Gas Meter

My gas meter is in my kitchen in a cupboard above the back door. (It's a Victorian property with high ceilings).
The meter itself is not attached to the wall. It just hangs there and is held by the two pipes either side. When it moves - either when physically touched (it can be wobbled) or by the vibrations from shutting the door under it, it emits a bit of gas. Not a huge amount but enough that you can smell it.
Someone from nPower came out and had a look and said it was fine. However, an electrician is refusing to do some rewiring in the kitchen as he thinks it's too dangerous.
Where do I go from here? Who's responsibility is it?

My advice...call the emergency gas number and just before the engineer arrives move it around so it emits the gas so that when the engineer enters your property they should smell the gas.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Would they repair it though? Presumably they'd just shut off the gas supply. Who would then repair it? nPower?0

If the leak is on the customer side then it's your responsibility to fix by calling a gas certified engineer. If it's on the distributor's side then it's up to the engineer that visits to refit the meter and fix the leak.:footie:

I'm not being complacent but it doesn't feel like an emergency. It's not constant and it's obviously only a tiny amount as the smell is only there for a very short time.
I want to get it fixed so I can have my electrics done but just want to make sure I get the right person out and only pay if I have to.0 -
It will be an emergency when your house family & half the bl**dy street have been blown up !!
For god's sakes call the emercency number & GET IT SORTED.0 -

Any smell of gas is classed as IMMEDIATELY DANGEROUS. It may only smell occasionally because you get used to the smell. Get it seen to immediately 0800111999
Did the guy from Npower leave you any AT risk information? From what you have described your meter is in an AT RISK situation and should be rectified by the supplier.
Can you post a picture of your meter?0 -

No, the guy from nPower didn't leave anything. He didn't seem at all concerned.
My electrician has arranged gas engineer to look at it today.
Have i understood correctly that the meter is nPower's responsibility? And I should be pursuing nPower to make sure it's safe? At their cost? (Or mine?)0 -
It could be argued it is your responsibility to at least support the meter, put a shelf up for instance
Any physical reason why not supported?Gardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0
