What type of S&S isa?

I currently have a cash isa, which i have used up all of my allowance, and am looking to open a stocks and shares isa, into which I will probably pay around £100 a month into, and may or may not open with a lump some of about £500 as well. i was originally thinking of opening an index tracker, purely because of convenience and i understood it, but having read a few other threads I am not so sure. I was reading about unit trusts which sound interesting, but can I have more than 1 in an isa to spread risk, and what are the charges for this? I don't know much about investing and would very much appreciate any advice as to what (theoretically) would be best for my money, even if it is just pointing me in the direction of a previoous thread.
cheers.
cheers.

There was a recent thread here.
I have a selftrade account which charges £25 p.a. for the ISA wrapper. I do NOT have funds with them, only individual shares, but am happy with their service. Hargreaves and Landsdowne have been quoted as being used by some for funds. Their site looks promising. If you do a search on those keywords (H&L, Selftrade) you might throw up some more threads of interest.Debbie0 -
When I opened my HL account they required an opening balance of £3000 for the Vantage S+S ISA, so that might not be possible in this particular case.
Best of luck with it anyway, I'm still fairly new to it all and am loving the freedome to invest my money where I see potential for good returns.I am a Chartered Financial Planner

I opened an HL Vantage ISA with a simply monthly direct debit investment and no initial lump sum required. AFAIK, the monthly amount can be as low as £50.
If you do choose to invest a lump some the minimum you can invest in one fund is meant to be £1000, but if you ring them I think they can accept lower investments into the popular funds.0 -

Useful knowledge for anyone else then! As it happens I wanted to invest a lump sum, so the limit wasn't a huge deal for me.
You're absolutely right about the lower minimum investments; I got in to the Invesco Perpetual Latin American Accumulation fund and the JP Morgan Natural Resources Accumulation fund with £500 each, though I believe that's the minimum lump sum investment they could accept for either.I am a Chartered Financial Planner
