Leaving 3 for SIM Only

Giff Gaff put a data bar on the sim when they think you've used too much data without warning. I only got a refund when I threatened to go to the ombudsman.
Shoddy service provider on a shoddy network.
You do realise "unlimited" does not truly mean "unlimited"?
Read your T&C's.
Also, any provider will ban your phone if you've used massive amounts of data too fast too soon in the event that maybe your phone is stolen or being used illegally until you ring and ask for it to removed. Not saying this applies to your case as you had to go ombudsmen etc. But this is the usual justification.
Keep in mind, unlimited does not truly mean unlimited.

Do you have a link to the fair use policy with regard to unlimited data usage on the Three AYCE price plans? :A====0 -
I didn't use that much data as the O2s 3G network is so shoddy that I was on 2G most of the time.
In any case, the T&Cs state a warning message would be sent there was none and GiffGaff blamed another system error.
They are simply rubbish. You do realise "unlimited" does not truly mean "unlimited"?

Anyone considering giffgaff for data might be interested in the number of customers complaining about deteriorating 3G data performance. Take look in the "contribute" forum on the giffgaff community.
(I can't post a link so you need to add the h t t p : / / bit (without spaces) before this) -

Also giffgaff data isn't really unlimited because it's subject to its "play fair" T&C's. Breaching these results in access being blocked temporally or permanently.
Here's some clarification recently posted by a giffgaff employee -
"I'll quickly throw this out here. As it says on our goodybag pages, we're unlimited for personal, mobile use. If you're downloading 200 GBs of data in a month:
a) It's safe to assume you're not consuming all that data solely on one device (i.e. you're moving it to another computer, phone etc.).

b) It's not mobile use, you're using it as a home broadband replacement. The "plugged in" bit you're hearing is the fact that you can't maintain a constant download session without becoming non-mobile at some point. This doesn't mean you can't use your phone while charging, it's just for those maintaining long sessions.

c) You're impacting your local capacity. I can't go into the exact numbers, but needless to say, it can just take one person hammering their mobile connection to hinder everyone else's connection to that mast (see 12.3 in the Ts&Cs: if you do anything or permit anyone else to do anything which we reasonably think adversely impacts the Service to other giffgaff customers or may adversely affect the Network;).
So we are unlimited, but only if you play fair, so we can offer a great service for everyone. Like we say, unlimited for personal, mobile use."0
