Lost BBC iPlayer on Sony TV

I have always used my Sony TV to watch catch up TV on BBC iPlayer. This has stopped working in the last week. The iPlayer screen sticks at "Loading". I can access other internet services.

Any ideas what the problem is with iPlayer?

I have tried the Auto Start to restore the factory settings but this has made no difference.

On an aside, I have always only been able to receive just BBC iPlayer and Channel 5 Demand 5. I understood this to be something to do with Sony licences. It is frustrating not to be able to access the ITV Player and Channel 4 On Demand. Does anyone know any more on this subject?

Thanks in advance. :D:D

I suspect Sony may not be updating the apps for you model of TV, I have had similar issues with a Samsung Smart TV thats a few years old.

If you don't want the expense of a YouView Box, then maybe look at Now TV the box is only £9.99, and has most catch up players.

  • I've just been on to the iPlayer website and it says that the BBC are aware of current access issues for Sony TVs and BluRay players. They are working to resolve the problem.

Hopefully, this means that iPlayer should return!

No, it's the BBC at fault in this case -although it is supposedly now sorted.

Yes, Sony don't plan to add ITV or Channel 4 to their SMART TV offering.

There is a twinkle in all the PSBs eyes at the moment. Its called 'Freeview Connect' and if it comes off, it will bring about the technical standardisation of all the catch up TV players. Which would mean they would all be on every smart TV available from when it launches. Instead of the mish-mash they have now.
  • I knew it, as soon as I get round to writing a post, the problem gets fixed! :T

iPlayer is back and working for me again :D

    Thanks for everybody's help.

  • I have a Sony KDL_32EX403 TV and have not been able to access BBC IPlayer for a few weeks now having no problem previously - really annoying. Does anyone have the same issue and know how to correct it?

    Three things you can try:-

    1. Reboot the TV,
    2. Wait, or
    3. Buy a YouView Box.

Its a problem at the BBC's end. They know about it and are working on it.
