I personally think they are being very reasonable.

I've had a big dent in my (expensive) laminate flooring repaired by a firm supplied by british gas (they made the big dent in the first place). They can fix almost any surface by painting it the right colour (basically).

I'd look into a repair a bit further. These were the people that did it for us http://www.magicman.co.uk/

It's a lot cheaper than replacing the flooring
The big difference being the OP's floor is real wood and your's wasn't.

a solution might be to get them to provide a decent quality carpet square with the edges bound. that way you lift and put down easily again when you have work done.
Teamwork means.......never having to take all the blame yourself ;)

Very true (and it was in my kitchen, where real wood isn't overly appropriate and doesn't match our colour scheme) but their result was pretty impressive and it's worth trying all options.

    The scratches are 40 " and 12" ,
The guy they sent out is a top French polisher and his exact words were "if I can't repair it , no one can"
But to tell you the truth when the scratches get full of dirt they are hardly noticeable !!!

I'm just thinking whether to call their bluff and say either pay me the £850 direct or repair the floor , and see what they say.

The bamboo flooring comes in coded batches and some of the batches are dark , some light . My floor is about 1 1/2 years old so would be hard to match the same batch. The room is 21ft x 11ft and the floor runs into another room continuous without a join . And the skirting sits onto the flooring so that would have to be removed too . Also rug would not look right over the scratches due to where they are situated

I'd say don't expect any more responses of help.
Just be aware that if you want to call someone's bluff then other people dealing with the same company will pay for your bluff because a smaller company can only stand for x much loss to be able to stay in business. I've seen many a good company fold against the corporates because they care and the corporates often don't.

Then take the £425 and buy a tin of shoe polish.

If they are not that noticeable take the cash offer and spend it on treats for you and your daughter. New floor versus old floor with barely noticeable scratches + £425 in your purse? Think about taking their offer. Don't be greedy.

I have to say I think they have been pretty reasonable and they are probably offering whatever their insurance company is prepared to cover. The scratches do sound very large and were it me, I would probably want the whole room redoing in bamboo. I do know from past experience that, even if all the rooms on one floor have the same covering, if one room is damaged, insurers will only offer to pay for that room, not the entire floor. I was going to suggest you have them pay the carpet firm or buy you a credit note/voucher but you don't seem to want a carpet. If you don't want a carpet and you don't want the whole lot doing, you will have to take whatever you are being offered as the court route may not go in your favour as they have made you offers. Good luck with whatever you decide.
