Thankyou everyone for your tips and suggestions they are much appreciated. Dog poop doesn't seem to be the problem as 'poop patrol' is completed every evening without fail. My gardener is coming this morning and i have got a big bucket of egg shells ready for him, my daughter is going call into Costa and ask her friend for the coffee..My husband said he is going under the decking at the weekend and will put egg shells etc there also. Last night i gave up counting at 27 slugs and 1 snail on the decking so hopefully these tips will help to solve the problem. Again many thanks.0

I go out at night and pick them up and take them to the local field.
My neighbour on the other hand comes out at night and throws them over the fence into my garden
Be ready with a tennis racket to return them next time......
Don't waste time taking them to a field. They will find their way back with all of the friends they encounter on the way. A dedicated pair of scissors is the answer.0 -

If my neighbour did that, then I would have to retaliate with a limited biological strike on some of their plants:)0 -
Last year I bought Growing Success Advanced Slug Killer containing Ferric Phosphate, I got it online from a company with Primrose in the name. I bought 3 575g tubs for less than £20 including posting. I have 1 and a bit tubs left.
I had very little slug damage last year and I have a very sluggy garden. It does say on the package not to use more than 4 times but I had to persistent, little b****rs to keep on top of them.
There is a use as directed warning to protect children and pets. QVC also sell a ferric phosphate slug killer which they claim is safe around children and pets.
I have seen Growing Success for sale in garden centres in smaller containers for a lot more
Ferric Phosphate also adds nutrients to the soil. Is approved for organic growing.
Earlier this year when I was preparing my beds I put some on the soil, a few weeks ago I planted some seedlings and put more pellets out so far the edge of 1 leaf has been nibbled0 -
Hens might try a slug once, but mine seem far too bright to get caught a second time. Tried it.
Mine love em and will gladly fight over them, yack lol.
Mind you we have 8 chickens so maybe its a competition thing that they feel they have to be first to grab something?
I am trying nematodes this year as I have been told that rather than having to reapply every 6 weeks like the manufacturer advices many simply use them at the start of the year and the coverage seems to last all season, perhaps its getting them at the start that knocks back the population so much that they never recover.

I actually found a snail yesterday and offered it to my (20) chickens.
They looked at me with total disdain.0 -
