The standard of English is so poor that this should stand out as an obvious scam.

A good rule is to assume EVERY email you get from a company is a scam.

If you really think it is genuine/important either go to their website via your browser (never click on a link in the email), or search online for their telephone number and call them (never call a number in the email)

There are some very clever scam emails out there, and I have nearly been fooled a couple of times, and believe me I am paranoid about internet security.

added: obviously never open any attachments, even from friends as their email account may have been compromised by scammers, sending out a virus to everyone in their address book!

I was with my daughter when she received one of these-or similar-she went ballistic until I explained it was a fake.

It's been noticeable of late (within the past six months of some fairly intensive PayPal scam activity) that the standard of English has markedly declined. Not sure if the Eastern Europeans who were originally responsible for the scams have given up and handed it over -- or out-sourced it -- to a different continent, but whatever the explanation, these scams ain't wot they used to be.

We had a PayPal scam email a couple of months ago which appeared to have been written by someone so apologetic, so courteous, that we almost sold him a share in the inheritance my wife has banked from a Nigerian finance minister killed in an airplane crash whose relatives have proved impossible to trace:

'With apologies many for the trouble you are caused by this but how sure we are you must understand the best is meant'.

Well yeah. Thanks, PayPal. That's exactly the kind of text a $multi-billion financial outfit will send to its account holders.

Is there, one wonders, money to be had from opening a School for Scammers? It could offer a course in basic English -- pre-paid in cash, but of course. . .

As a "PC" person I am often get asked at work and by relatives if this or that email is a scam.

To date every single time I have been asked, it always is. So the rule is: it's a scam, it's always a scam.

Another rule which I have drummed into everyone is: If you have to ask, it's a scam.
