I have never actually "Needed" a credit card as such but as with Capital 1 if they are offering cashback it would be rude not to have one. (I got £295 cashback in January from Capital 1);)0 -
Hi
A few months after my 123 current account had been opened I got asked if I would like the credit card. I said yes and they offered me a 5K limit. I asked them to reduce this down to £500 as I didn't want a limit that high. Over the past 9-10 months I have been using the card and then paying the balance off in full.
Last month we decided to stop using our joint Amex card for food and to use my 123 Mastercard. I contacted Santander to ask them to increase the limit to £1000. They sent a message back to say that I needed to to wright to them. I did, and after 2 weeks they sent a form back asking for household income etc. I fill it in and returned it. Then they said no. I don't understand why.
Similar story at HSBC. I have over £100K invested with them and am a HSBC premier customer, but it took an age to get them to give me a contactless debit card and have been told I will need to wait at least 6 months before they will consider giving me a credit card.
Thing is my credit history is good, I am guessing that its just that I have money but no income.

Earlier this year, my partner was accepted but I was rejected, which is odd seeing as we have had identical banking histories for the last 8 years. I called the number given to select customers to inquire about appealing and they could not have been more helpful.
They appealed on my behalf and called me back less than 24 hours later to let me know that the appeal had been successful and the card would be with me shortly.
Definitely worth giving it a shot.0 -
Well I did send off an appeal and have received 2 letters today. The first one I opened was "appeal Successful" your card will be posted out shortly:j The second one I opened was "Appeal Declined" (This is dated prior to the acceptance one though)
Not sure whats going on really but they don't instil confidence do they?:rotfl:
I'm not sure whether to ring them or leave it and wait and see what arrives in the post (and also whether to laugh or cry)0 -
Just rung CS and they have confirmed the appeal was successful so I can now use the 123 account to it's maximum advantage as originally planned:beer:0

Is there a reason behind wanting to know everybody's credit limit?0 -

Slightly off topic as it's a Santander current a/c rather than card...
Me and Missus Kar need to find a home for £30-£40k now Lloyds Vantage accounts have halved and we maxed out the Club A/cs.
My Santander 123 application sailed through but the OH has been refused for the first time in her life for any financial product. Have no idea why and have checked that her credit report is squeaky clean but can only assume she has not their "other" criteria.
It may be that because she is self employed with a low income they don't like her even though her investment income which we declared as "other" is significant. ... having said that, I'm also self employed and declared most of my income (from my company dividends) as "other".
We are appealing via a branch which is apparently the only option left so let's see what the branch and appeal brings....If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.0
