Should I let her see the birthday cake??

This year I'm ordering a lovely Princess Castle birthday cake and will add decorations to it so that it will be The Little Mermaid's Underwater Castle, for my 5 year old dd.
She loves Princess Ariel!!
Previous years she has had a basic round cake with a character picture on it but this year I want to surprise her with a nice cake.
Now.....if I present it at her party, she will see it for about 10 minutes before it has to be cut up. I can't leave it on display for the duration of the party as it's at a public venue and not practical.
Should I show her the cake, say, the evening before so she can ooh and aaah over it (no touching)....or will I be breaking birthday party protocol just because I'm getting over excited myself :rotfl:

A little girl only turns 5 once. Forget birthday party protocol and make the most of it with your dd. I bet she will adore her cake. It sounds like you are going to so much effort to make it special for her. These are the moments you will both look back on and cherish in years to come. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

Seriously? You don't really want to follow some pretend rules set by some unknown people, do you?
Do what's right for your little girl! Let her see her cake, get some lovely photos of her with it and let her tell all her friends how wonderful it is.0 -

There is no birthday party protocol .
Show her the cake, I always do.Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -
My girls see their cakes. I decorate them the night before so they come down in the morning to see them on the kitchen table. I usually here one of them calling to the other "she's made one, it a .....", then someone will run up to my bedroom to let us know it's the best cake ever.
Let your little one enjoy the cake and make your own traditions :-)0 -
Show her this amazing cake. She will like it, and will be so excited to cut it in her birthday party.0

I didn't realise there was a 'birthday party protocol'? Show her it!
When I was little my Mam knew someone who made cakes, and I chose my cake for my party myself, I wasn't aware that it had to be kept top secret?
