Should I let her see the birthday cake??

Get photos of her and cake!
*Lots* of photos!
A delighted five year old is a delightful spectacle - so not too late before bedtime, but washed & brushed & in a tidy corner of the house so you don't flinch at *anything* in the photo in deacdes to come!

When I was a kid my mum would let me choose what cake I wanted and would make if for me. I always saw it before my birthday and sometimes I would even help her make it.Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)

I used to help decorate my cake when I was little!

Why not present it to her on the morning of her birthday with all her other gifts? A nice big ribbon round the cake box to untie!0

Another vote for letting her see it and enjoy it for longer.
I don't think she'll be any less excited when the candles are lit and it appears as her friends won't have seen it before and she'll be excited for them to see it for the first time.
On the subject of home made cakes, the one that sticks in my memory was the one where my mum put too much food colouring into the buttercream icing so I was allowed to eat it while she made another batch

Thank you everyone....and don't you just love Ariel!!
I'll show her the cake! Infact I really like the idea of her helping to decorate it. Going to buy some sea shells and use those silver edible balls for pearls. I have 'stolen' one of her miniature mermaid dolls and that will go on the cake too.
I'll do the finishing touches and she'll see the end result in the morning.
Thanks for the ideas xx
You know, I always thought the cake was supposed to be a surprise on the day. I'm not sure where I got that from but I guess it is foolish.Dave Ramsey Fan[/COLOR]0 -

good grief - show it to her the day before! take pictures of it and her! it sounds just adorable. and you are right - as soon as cake is brought out its candles lit and she blows them out, and her cake is taken away and cut up! let her enjoy it in all its glory.0
