Depression, anyone?
I-Want-To-Move
I am a lurker who has posted a few times about horrible noisey neighbours. They make me hate where i live. Not only am i desperate to move away from them, i want to raise my child in a less deprived area. Im feeling overly sensitive to the neighbours anti social behaviour and trapped here with no light at the end of the tunnel. I have suffered depression in the past and the anxiety i feel is triggering another bout of it.
I work, have a decent job and decent salary. Have a good balance between work and childcare. My house isnt much and its in a rubbish area but ive made it nice inside. Im on top of my bills but i am only just keeping my head above water financially - i have no emergency fund and no spare cash each month to start one, ive no friends because i have no money after bills for treats. I enjoy being a single parent, ive never known any different but it is so hard financially. I have contacted step change who helped me make a budget. I have also spoken to financial advisors about the possibility of moving in the future and they have all said i cant afford to. I cant think of a way of increasing my income so that makes me scared that this is it forever. My house is worse less than what i paid for it i discovered this week too.
Im scared rhat growing up in a deprived area will hinder my childs opportunities in life but i cant afford to get us out of here and somewhere better.
Anyone experienced something similar? How do you prevent depression taking a hold when things feel hopless?
My life has gone in reverse - good family, nice home, nice area, money in the bank to abusive relationship, bad area, no money, no friends.
I love my child and want them to have good opportunities. Feel like a failure.
Sorry for the long rant. I needed to talk but no one i can open up too.

Your love, attention and commitment to your child will have a far bigger impact than where you live.
If you have a decent salary, why are you stuck? Why are your outgoings so high? There are boards on here (old style and debt free wannabe spring to mind) with posters who can help you free up some of your cash every month, and advise you on how to make your wage go further.0 -
Maybe decent salary is being generous - how do i post a soa? Maybe that is the way forward - am scared of peoples reactions. Although they are in the minority there are a few harsh people ive noticed on other threads when people were just asking for help.
I hope you are right and i am a bigger influence than where we live.
How do i prevent my circumstances / anxiety triggering a full blown episode of depression? Have been free from it for such a long time, i dont want to go back there.0 -
Have you been to your GP?0

I have in the past but not this time - i think its important to address the cause. Ive posted a kind of soa on debt free board, hopefully that will help me manage my money better. It would be nice to hear from another single mum who was able to improve their life - gives you encouragement that things change0

If you need to post on the debt board on here, there will be people who might be able to advise you where you can make savings and/or let you know about other ways to make a second income, am sure there are many people on the boards who have second jobs such as mystery shopping or similar.
You may get the odd post thats not so supportive, but thats the chance that any of us take when posting on a forum, if you dont feel strong enough to put up with what might be criticism, go back to the thread when you feel a bit brighter and I agree, see your GP before you sink into depression.
Chin up, I know what its like to have noisy neighbours, it can wear you down but there are people on here who will give help and support given half a chance.0 -
Thank you both xx0

Agree with others, see GP before you get to full blown depression. I waited 3 months and so I'm still there a year after the signs started.0

Another vote for a GP visit, and best of luck - the people on the DFW are pretty good

If you haven't been over there yet, try the Old Style boards.
They'll show you how to stretch every penny so you can start making some savings (in fact I'm sure there are some who are make copper wire out of a penny they stretch so much

Didn't want to read and not reply, keep your chin up OP.
Things can change very soon so don't think that this will last forever.
In the mean time check out Quidco, the freebies/vouchers boards and survey websites. Every little helps
