I just don't know! I rang the solicitor yesterday and she sounded a bit rushed. I got the feeling she said another 3 weeks just to fob me off probably because she was busy! She said they had got some searches back but were waiting for 9 more. They are using a private search company and I don't know if this makes it slower? Im going to ring first thing Friday to see if any more have come back and hopefully she will have time to talk to me if its early in the day. I want to question why its took so long and I may even suggest that we or our buyers may pull out if it takes much longer. Do you think this will make them hurry?

Push your solicitor and make sure they understand how important this is. Find out what is still outstanding and ask if you can either go yourself and get them, or pay a supplement to have them go in person. It will be a lot cheaper than going into rented!

If your solicitors are too busy or have chosen to contact out to another company, that is their problem. Your relationship is with the solicitors and they can speed this up, you just need to give them the motivation to do it!

If they are rushed there will be lots of other people in a similar position to you, they will all be pushing for their case to be dealt with as a priority as well.

I am not advocating being rude or aggressive to your solicitor, just ensuring that they understand that you need this to move faster, and keep asking for updates until you get a satisfactory answer.

You could look for a short term let - there are some out there, but be prepared to pay over the odds for rent as the landlord/agent will incur additional costs for short term tenants compared to a "standard" tenancy.

You may also struggle with the fact that you have dogs. Many properties do not accept pets at all and most would not expect a large number of dogs. You would probably have the same problem with a holiday let. If you find a place that will take the dogs, again, expect to pay over the odds for the security deposit.

Until you exchange contracts on the property you are buying, it could all fall through and you could end up needing to rent for a longer period of time.

I think I will do this. Im not very good at being pushy and am easily fobbed off. When I put the phone down I find myself wishing I'd said this or that but its too late then! But I will ring the solicitors and ask if I can go and get them myself or pay extra to have them go in person as you say! (I didn't know you could do this!).

I personally would not move into rented accommodation - the people you are buying from may change their mind!

Just hurry the solicitor up as someone has suggested, and be patient. It IS very stressful though!

Just rang the solicitor and she says all the searches have arrived today! So I don't know what she was on about when she said 3 weeks the other day. She has now got to look through them and, if they are fine, we will go in next week to sign papers and discuss dates. Im so glad!!!:T Fingers crossed that everything is now in order.

That's great news, sounds like she was just trying to fob you off ;-) Hope you get an exchange date soon!

Can you rent somewhere for a week or is it usual to sign something to say you are going to rent for at least 6 months?

What would you do? Just sit it out and be patient? Im so fed up with living here.
