No ring tone on one of our extensions

We have a Panasonic phone system (4 hand held extensions) and the ringing tone on one handset has ceased. That particular handset works in all other ways, making and accepting calls. Can anybody suggest what is wrong, and how we correct it?

if you mean cordless, it's probably been programmed to silent ring or do not disturb. Check the manual for settings.

It's a guess as you haven't specified any model information....

Could it be that one of the menu options is ringtone volume and you have somehow turned it down or off?

thanks. Yes, it's a cordless system and we've checked the ringing/volume button which is set at maximum volume.

Without knowing the specific 'phone which I do not of course I might suspect the batteries, often these discharge and will not recover, try putting in some new batteries, these do not have to be rechargeable, just to check. If this works the batteries may be duff.

I have a Panasonic KX-TG6624EB set up. One base station, four cordless handsets. Each handset has a speaker phone, which you switch on by pressing the button with the speaker symbol below the green answer button.

As you can still make and receive calls, that would indicate the battery is OK, and so is the ear phone. My theory is that the ringing is done using the speaker phone speaker. If that is dead, due to bad wiring or whatever, then the speaker phone function will not work either.

So, check the speaker phone works on a good handset, and do the same on the dud handset.

Somebody dropped it, and cracked a connection inside, probably.

Respect what you say, I do not know your particular model, however on my set up (Gigaset) and you could still make and receive calls but it did not ring. This turned out to be batteries, just a suggestion.

Well all advice and suggestions welcome as we tend to be a non techie household when it comes to fixing things.

The exact model would allow others here to check their ideas in the manual. It may well be that the volume on the handset can be used for both call volume and ring volume but setting each is a separate procedure depending on handset state or menu option.

Yes if you can find out the model number (it might be located under the base station, or any book that you may still have) then it could be possible to make further suggestions.

I looked under the base station and discovered it's Model No KX TG 6421ES but the manual seems to have gone AWOL.
