No buying unnecessary toiletries April 2014

  • Popping by with a quick UU: Original source mint shower gel 250ml. Lovely for spring/summer mornings as it wakes me up and is cooling on the skin. Not sure I'd love it in the winter though! Bought a case of them from costco so have 5 more to use, in the meantime replacing it with another one of my Nivea accidental bargains.

I am coming closing to using up the last of my Smashbox photo finish primer. I bought the travel size a good 6 months ago so it's lasted well, but I'm curious ti try another primer. I've tried benefit before and it didn't work with my foundation, and it needs to be without colour as I am so pale the tinted primers can be darker than my own skin. Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

I need help!! Keep filling my online shopping baskets with various beauty items. So far have managed to not spend. So many skincare items that I would like to try out but I am always scared to try anything new because my skin is so blemish prone.

It's so interesting how different things suit different people. I bought Nars Sheer Glow foundation on the back of loads of blogger raves about it but it just doesn't work on my skin. In contrast, I LOVE the Barry M matte foundation and this costs about 6 times less!

I am going through a buying-spree at the moment so I know how you feel, I applaud your resolve, mine left when the sunny weather did! :o

Foundation wise, I've tried lots of ones, generally I use Maybelline powder but when I want extra coverage, I do use liquid etc.

I have tried lots and lots of foundations over the years in many different formats including mousse (generally went on too patchy), liquid (slid off my face) and cream palette (perfect but looked a bit heavily applied, hid my freckles etc). Then for about 5 years I gave up and wore only powder, trying a couple of high-end samples along the way, none of which worked for me.

Now though, either my skin has changed or the formula has, because I've found ones that work! (In the same way my black hair never used to allow itself to be dyed, now it will), and the two I've found look really natural and don't slide off my face or anything are these, they're mid-price at about £13....

http://www.boots.com/en/Max-Factor-Miracle-Touch-Foundation_125268/ (I personally have bought blushing beige for winter and natural for summer)

http://www.boots.com/en/No7-Beautifully-Matte-Foundation_1273293/ (My skin is combination with a very oily nose at times)

With the No7, I wouldn't take the adsolute word of the match thing as it NEVER matched me properly, get them to make you up before you leave. In the end I said I'd pick the two I thought were my colours and she put them on and both suited me, one slightly more than the other. I use Cool Ivory but Beige also suited me I think, I was matched at two different times to Calico and Soft Rose!

Postie delivered lots of goodies to me today:j as mentioned previously I had got out of the habit of properly wearing make-up and needed more colour now that I have joined the [STRIKE]glamorous[/STRIKE] grey brigade.

My Real Techniques brushes arrived from Amazon, great price (didn't order on 3 for 2 on Boots 'cos I didn't need to buy anything else:D), not as :money: as it sounds as I had already ordered Sleek Original I-Divine and 2 Rimmel Eye mascaras and bought on 3 for 2 in store 1 Miss Manga mascara and a Max Factor blush and a green eyeshadow, also arrived is a cheapie pink hair mascara to try, most of my pink highlights have grown out now, and my next highlights won't be done until my birthday in June - purple is the favoured colour atm.

Not adding these to my IN's as make-up excluded, I will list the outs from my old stash as they were declared as IN's (makes sense to me:rotfl:).

Someone mentioned how great this months Glossybox was, and about 5 minutes later I got a half price voucher, so succumbed - 4 Ins, won't list them all in case anyone is still waiting for one, but I am really glad to have gotten a new sample of highlighter. My Benetint is low, and I do like it for special occasions (it's not benetint, but the same gist)

UU: small Sanctuary Spa body scrub

Doubt I will have any more UUs before the end of the month, but will have a nosey around.

Didn't Punjab say something like that in Annie..."A child without laughter is a sky without stars"?

Oh I like my freckles, don't like the sunspots though! :o

  • I spent the Easter helping look after my newborn godson, to give poor mum a chance to recover from her c section. I travelled to Ireland and took lots of little travel size bottles, lots of splutters but no UU's to report.

Thought I was doing well till I stumbled on this on pinterest. If I follow these 'portions' I think it will be months before I can replace what I'm using!

shandyclover - (great name btw!) I saw something similar a while ago, but if I put one 'grape' of sunscreen on each body part, I'd be in a hospital burns unit within a few weeks!

Plus skincare and shampoo etc. depends on your skin and hair type, so it's all relative really! Some people on here use twice the amount of conditioner to shampoo, I'm the other way around etc. Some creams go further than others.....I don't see how it's possible to generalise in the way they have done.

    Evening all

Re The pintrest post i wonder where you stand also with larger surface areas for us bigger ladies surely more skin = more moisturiser needed?
