Giving evidence, Mr Long, who was not asked if he admits or denies the fraud allegation, said he did not know about the order for disclosure of his assets because of his mental health problems.
Ah, Scoville's Syndrome, also known by the medical term of chronic scamophrenia.

Funny how he managed to con hundreds of people into handing over their money to him while in the grip of serious mental health problems.

Another BBC Radio 4 report today on Money Box:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0001pj7

Steven Long, the founder of the collapsed inheritance planning firm, Universal Wealth Preservation, has been jailed for eight months for failing to disclose the whereabouts of his clients' money. It's now emerged that at least twenty-five million pounds has gone missing. Money Box hears from Shivani Varma, the solicitor acting for around 30 claimants who have lost millions of pounds and talks to one client who attended the High Court hearing about what it was like when the prison sentence was handed down.

Perfect excuse now for not having access. No longer out of the country but now detained at Her Majesty's pleasure!
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • Several friends of mine made investments with an accountant and tax consultant named David Vaughan Jones from Wales. He was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment with a further 3 years on license in May, 2017, for (allegedly) not returning the investments and for not disclosing the whereabouts of the money. The details of this case have been widely published and in the public domain. I imply no guilt.

If anyone has information about this case or specifically information about investors with this scheme, please email me. All contacts will be kept strictly confidential. It is hoped that questions may be answered and/or a group formed to investigate the case further.

    Thank you.

I wondered if anyone could answer me, what I hope is a simple question.
For those that placed property in the trust, do you know if the trust was a Revocable or Irrevocable one?

Can't help you myself. If you are trying to unwind one of Universal's trusts you need advice from a registered solicitor who should be able to confirm that one way or the other.

As the thread's been bumped, it seems worth nothing that Steven Long should be out of jail round about now if he's been behaving himself. And will be free to fly off to Mexico to enjoy his properties and see if sunshine and margaritas jog his memory about where everyone's money is.

Indeed, four months of his eight month sentence is up any day now - and probably in the past week

Such a shame that he had memory problems concerning assets allegedly held abroad.

I wonder if he'll be able to remember what and where they are after his little period of recuperation?

This might be useful to anyone who hasn't seen it:

  • I have been advised that the Universal saga will be featured on 'Rip Off Britain' on BBC1 at 9:00 on Wednesday 15 May.
