It encourages poorer people to neglect their illnesses and ignore symptoms until they are unbearable, when earlier treatment would have been more effective and cheaper.
It also causes huge numbers of people to go bankrupt every year due to medical bills.
It seems its usually the poorest who have the most kids.
Also, drug habits aren't cheap are they?0 -

There's a board here that's more suited to this kind of topic, its called discussion time, right at the bottom of the list.
As you're a newbie, you must not have noticed it.

I'm sure they'll welcome you with open arms, especially in a Republican state...listerinspector wrote: »From what I gathered, if you can't afford to pay there was public assistance.
USA is actually a country I want to emigrate to.

It probably varies from state to state, but in my state public assistance for healthcare is pretty minimal. You'll get basic emergency care but that's it, and they'll chase you for the money. You can negotiate for a discount but that's at the discretion of the hospital or clinic. For chronic or long-term conditions if you've no money you're on your own. When you go to a doctor the first thing they do is take your payment.
Insurance is expensive and policies vary enormously in what they cover. Also, as far as I am aware, there is no policy that covers everything cost-wise. To complicate things further, treatment providers (doctors, hospitals, outpatient services, ambulances etc) work in contract with the various insurance companies. So there's a two-tier system where the cost will differ depending on whether you use a treatment provider that's in-contract with your insurance company or not. If not, they'll charge you a lot more.
We have a policy that regarded as excellent. Our insurance costs hundreds of dollars every month. But there are still costs on top of that. My OH had an accident recently that resulted in a lengthy hospital stay, surgery etc. We are well into six figures. The insurance will cover most of it, but we are still looking at a five-figure bill to pay personally.
I would never want to live in the US without health insurance.0 -
What did you think of the sex offender one?
I felt it was too similar to other sex offender documentaries he has already done- I think he could have covered something more unique in LA. The end of life documentary for me was much better.0 -
Ive just watched it. I found it particularly hard to watch.:( Good to see Langston make such a good recovery but what was difficult for me was the fact I'd have probably gone with the doctors decision not to continue treatment. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
