The review I saw said that it contained upsetting scenes, so I decided not to watch it for that reason. The health-care available to those without lavish insurance or unlimited savings in the US beggars belief. I thank God every single day that fate didn't have me be born there.

Couldn't agree more. I think Louis is a real professional given the situations he covers and in my opinion completely under-rated. Sally

I love the Louis Theroux shows, and I watched this last night.

I did have a tear in my eye at the end, it was a great programme.

Did anyone see the last weeks, about the dogs? I was also welling up when the dog was getting taken away to be put down at the end.

I agree - he's an amazing TV journalist.

From what I gathered, if you can't afford to pay there was public assistance.

USA is actually a country I want to emigrate to.

Public assistance can be adequate also - in one case a gentleman had been in hospital for nine months at a cost of over two million dollars, followed by hospice care at home, all paid for by the state. That gentleman, Donta, has been in my mind today.

The programme was excellent, one of the best I have watched in a long time. It managed to show a broad range of opinions that few documentaries manage to, and actually left me questioning my own opinions on the subject.
  • Do you think a system like that of the US would encourage more people to take responsibility for themselves?

I was in two minds about it, but watched it avidly and am really pleased I did.

I find his programs very well done - he has a way of provoking responses from the people he is interviewing by very non leading questions I like him.

    No.

It encourages poorer people to neglect their illnesses and ignore symptoms until they are unbearable, when earlier treatment would have been more effective and cheaper.

It also causes huge numbers of people to go bankrupt every year due to medical bills.
  • I was also a bit unsure of the couple who married where he died 3 days later. I know they love each other et all, but is dying a good reason to get married?
