Maybe not too much to do in Oban. I seem to remember there's a seaplane flies between the Clyde in Glasgow and Loch Lomond. Might be worth looking at that if it's not too expensive and it'sstill running. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

You should check hotel prices in and around Glasgow as the Commonwealth games end on the 3/8 and they have hiked their prices by a lot.0

Those flights can also go to other places, Oban is a possibility as is Tobermory.0 -

Good point. You probably want to sort out car hire well in advance and get out of the Glasgow area toot sweet.;)
Might be worth making a big fuss about arriving after the end to keep booking staff aware you're trying to dodge the crowds.
Will the Edinburgh festival be on when you reach there? There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
easyHotel in Glasgow is now £9 per room per night on the 4th and 5th of August. Ideal if it's just a bed for the night you need. You can spend your money on other things! Need to hurry and book now though I suspect.0

It's still running. I see it from my house occasionally. I live just west of Glasgow.0 -

we had the most amazing camping road trip in Scotland last year. The part that's relevant to your plans was:
Glasgow to Loch Lomond - had a blissful night at a remote campsite.
Loch Lomond to Oban via a night at Ardfern
Oban to Mull - drove down to Iona and had a couple of nights there. Then drove all the way up the west cost of Mull (saw some sea eagles!) to Tobermory. Had a couple of nights there, with an incredible trip with Staffa Tours to Staff spotting basking sharks on the way.
Mull to Skye - caught the ferry to Ardamurchan Point and drove up the coast to Mallaig. There are some beautiful views on the islands. Caught the ferry to Skye, then over the Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness.
I would HIGHLY recommend Mull over Skye....0 -
The west coast is indeed stunning. Loch Lomond is well worth a visit. The sea plane is often buzzing around. I often give it a wave if I'm in the garden. If you're looking to splurge Cameron House is nice and right on the loch. Duck Bay has great views but only for a drink if you ask me.
Something a bit different is the Drovers Inn, it's on the A82 so perfect for driving up the west coast.

Another option which is a lovely drive and fantastic for food & accommodation is the George Hotel in Inveraray, the website is showing some special offers. It's a nice place to wander round too with some tourist attractions & nice twee shopping.

I could go on forever but hopefully this gives you some ideas.0
