Microsoft Office

I've been trying to load Microsoft Office onto my new laptop, using the produce key from the old version of Office that I have on my other computer, but apparently it won't work because it's not Office 2013.

I thought to download Office 2007 from what appears to be the official Microsoft site:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/downloads/ (the middle one)
but I'm getting a scary warning message.

Yes, Office 2007 is ancient, but it works fine so I am loathe to fork out £90-odd for the 2013 version.

Any ideas as to how to get round this. Sadly, I've long since lost the 2007 disk.

why not try Open Office, it's free and compatable with MO.

I don't know what broswer you are using but just click on whatever implies that you accept the risk and carry on. It just means that their security certificate is out of date. It is a microsoft site that then forwards you on to digitalriver. All pukkah and nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your help folks - I did try Open Office years ago, but wasn't all that impressed.

I think you should only recommend OO for those people who have fairly basic requirements. E.G. only want a word processor because Notepad doesn't have formatting or a spreadsheet just to have columns of numbers but not do any serious or semi-serious manipulation of them.

I have never found OO remotely compatible with the Office docs and spreadsheets that I normally use or create and on that basis would never recommend it it to somebody who clearly speaks about MS Office.

I have also seen the mess that OO makes of Office docs when people bring them into work after using OO on them at home. Not a pretty sight

Won't help the OP, but surely LibreOffice should be the default recommendation these days for those who don't want to spend on MS Office? I thought that it was being kept far more up to date than OO?

Hi I downloaded Libreoffice from the official site but I can't get it to open Word attachments on emails? This is one of the main reasons I wanted it.

When I looked through the download procedure I think it said there was an option to enable you to open Window documents but I don't remember having to tick this?

Can anyone advise me on this please.

What is the file suffix of these attachments? i.e the letters after the dot in the file name?
