Upgrade or New Contract??

Hi. I'm new to MSE and am wondering if any of you guys can help.
I am almost at the end of an Orange/EE contract (due to expire on 2 April).
I am eligible for upgrade with Orange/EE.
However, I was wondering whether I am better to wait until 2 April to negotiate a new contract or whether I should contact them now to upgrade? Am I better off going to companies as an existing contract holder or as a new customer??
Cheers

Many thanks.
I'm on monthly contract iPhone Extra 36 (24 mth), 27 mths
I could have upgraded since 16 Feb 2014.
Think I would want a change from iPhone- maybe LG G2 or Samsung or HTC.
Cheers0 -

My EE contract is up (24 months) on 21 April. I have already got my phone unlocked, got a PAC code and am going to port the number over to GiffGaff.
However, I am happy to keep my iPhone 4S for a bit longer. Sounds like you want to change phones asap?
I would still recommend giffgaffing or going to one of the others that do 30 day rolling contracts for at least a couple of months. That way, you can go back to your old provider as a new customer with potentially better deals, if you so wish.0 -
Also consider getting rid of your iphone via one of the many "we buy your old phone" .com sites.
You could use this towards paying for your new phone possibly.0 -
Check out what other provider offering. Easiest way is going to uswitch.
Once you found out, that is your based line.
Then ring orange/ EE ask if they able to match, if not, ask for PAC code.0 -
Phone up and ask for your PAC code today. Get your phone unlocked if it isn't (it will sell better if you decide to do so or it will let you change network) then in about 25 days time use the PAC.
This avoids paying for service twice for long (they charge you the rest of your 30 days when you use the PAC).
You will get increasingly desperate calls from the retentions department. If you like the offer take it, otherwise get a giffgaff SIM (it's a good idea to get one anyway even if you don't activate it) and port your number to that.
Use that in your phone until you see an offer you like. Otherwise you will be paying £20 or so over the odds until you get a new phone by staying on your current contract.0
