Ikea Web vs Instore Prices

Hi Guys,
Just something I noticed this week. I've been on the lookout for some garden furniture for a while now and thought I'd pop into the Ikea Bristol store to see their selection. Whilst viewing it I noticed that the prices more expensive than I'd seen on the website and it put me off ... and I'm thinking of waiting until the end of summer to get better deals anyway. I thought to myself that they must have gone up as I'd looked at the site the previous week.
Upon returning home I checked the website which were showing the cheaper original prices so I let customer services know and how unhappy I was with the situation. Their reply was based along the lines of there being a 3 hour delay in updating the website prices. It has now been almost 2 days and the prices still aren't updated and they haven't replied to my follow up.
I feel in this case that Ikea are completely out of order here as they do not do mail order and to find out that the items are more expensive after you've driven 1.5 hours or more to get to a store is a rip off. The items in question are ....
ÄPPLARÖ Drop-leaf Table : Website - 80.00 Bristol - £89.00
ÄPPLARÖ Recliner : Website - £25.00 Bristol - £29.00
ÄPPLARÖ Gateleg table : Website - £45.00 Bristol - £49.00
PARKÖ Plastic Table : Website - £7.00 Bristol - £9.00
This list is not exhaustive but only what I saw\can remember and I'm not sure if it is reflective of other Ikea stores. It's interesting that they appear to be increasing the prices of the garden items just as we're coming into summer!
Regards
Rob
PS : I have to say that the quality of the ÄPPLARÖ Recliner was very good compared to similar priced items from Homebase or B&Q.

I would put it in a letter to customer service manager in the first instance and get some vouchers from them towards the furniture, at least enough to cover the increase in prices and petrol costs for the wasted journey.
Call them and get the managers name and then write to them personally. If this doesn't work, write to the CEO, use this website for tracing head office addresses:

Just as an added extra to this topic.....there's also a difference in price between stores too.
Fairly large variation between Glasgow Ikea and Edinburgh Ikea for example, on many of their lines. In the middle of house DIY and renovation just now and needed to buy new furniture quickly. One particular item consisted of several parts and all but one of the parts was in stock in Glasgow so we had to drive to Edinburgh to pick up the other part.
This was when we realised that the Edinburgh branch was dearer for many things. I queried it and was told 'that's just the way it is'.
I'm about to write with a complaint about shoddy goods and service and I intend to also mention the price difference.
I think the fact that many Ikea branches are franchises has a lot to do with it though, and although I thought prices were set, the individual managers appear to have room to juggle prices somewhat.
If we'd bought all our goods in Edinburgh, we would have spent around £40 more than we did in Glasgow.
Moral: If you have more than one branch near you, it's well worth checking the store prices imo.Herman - MP for all!0 -
