Just Removed My Antivirus?

I've just removed my antivirus to see if it could resolve a problem I've got - it didn't but, all my favourite websites are working so much better. Often if I clicked on another page of the website all the formatting would dissappear and I'd have to refresh the page to get it to come back. Sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't. But now all my sites are working brilliantly.

Trouble is, now I am exposed to risk.

I had two antiviruses - should I just put one back on?

    Yes, just one.

Antivirus is not a case of 'the more the better'. Pick one that you believe is real good and install that.

You should only ever have one AV installed.

Well maybe - I don't know? They were both sitting in my startup so I guess so.

Should I put just one back. Computer seems to be running lovely with out them!!

Smells like two AV products conflicting or poor AV products .
Windows Defender about 90% covered but it all depends upon what sites you visit .

    Thanks

I've got Windows 8 and my computer seems to have come loaded with defender, and norton antivirus - and then at some point, perhaps I downloaded Avast!

I can see there must have been conflicts and this is what has caused me lots of issues.

I don't visit many sites - just a couple of banking ones, tesco, amazon and facebook.

Yes Windows 8 comes with Windows Defender, which is a full featured anti-virus program in it's own right.
But when you installed Norton AV then Windows Defender is designed to be disabled, so that wouldn't cause conflict.
But then installing Avast would cause conflict with Norton.

Either Norton or Avast, not both.

ETA: Now you've uninstalled both Norton and Avast, Windows Defender is back working as your AV again, so you could just leave it like that.
But WD doesn't have the best reputation, so if you are doing banking on that computer you'd probably be better putting Norton or Avast back on (plus malwarebytes).

Get rid of Norton, Avast is good

Or just stick with Microsoft Security Essentials.
The whole subject (Malware, Virus a blah) is very over-rated.

But yes OP, have one, and one only. Two or more will just slow your computer.
You may have had slow internet as some AV scans pages and blocks elements, it's a tedious process.
