DVA - what will happen now?

  • It is now, but as far as i'm aware when functions transfer to DVLA from July - it will NOT have to be transfered to a car here or in GB, you will be able to retain the registration until you have a suitable car.

The £80 assignment fee and VAT are included in the total price.
You have 12 months to assign the registration number to your chosen vehicle, but the entitlement period can be extended shortly before expiry upon application and payment of a fee.
If the vehicle to which this registration is to be assigned is not registered in your name as Purchaser, you should also complete the Nominee section. Once you have completed your purchase the Nominee details may only be changed upon application and payment of a fee.
The registration number can only be assigned to a vehicle which is registered, or about to be registered in mainland Britain (excluding Northern Ireland) and which is an appropriate age to receive the registration number. At the time of assignment the vehicle must be licensed, of a testable type and have a test certificate in force, if applicable. Once you have assigned your number it may be transferred to another vehicle subject to the DVLA's transfer rules"
  • Sorry to reopen an old thread but I hope someone can answer a question for me. I've just sold a car, should i send the registration document to Coleraine or Swansea?

I don't know if you are all aware but there is a huge difference in price re driving licenses between NI and GB.
    Examples include:-
A first provisional license on GB costs £34 if applying online/£43 by post yet it's £62.50 for us.
Renewal of a full license costs £14/£17 for GB and £30 for us.

Given everything has transferred to Swansea why are we still being discriminated against?

The fee is still set by the assembly. Good luck getting them to agree to drop it. You'll have to convince them that it's both a socialist workers right to pay the same as they do in GB and that paying higher fees is an affront to the lord.

The prices were set to try and cover the costs to keep the functions and jobs in Coleraine. We should all be lobbying our MLA's to reduce the fees to GB levels.

Driver Licensing is still being processed in Coleraine, it is only vehicle licensing that has moved to Swansea

All functions will be moved by the end of March 2015.
