as far as I know there will be no new jobs in Swansea .
So money saving for the government not so good for Coleraine .I received a new license this year and Coleraine sent it to Swansea for printing .

  • Feel sorry for the staff involved.

But in the long run hopefully the system will be better as these problems have been an issue
    • The recent lack of modernisation (no online faciliteis - sorry telephone doesn't count for me!)
    • Difficulties encountered with having two departements of which transfer of number plates are just one
    • Differrence in fees - £30 to renew licence in NI vs. £20 to renew licence in mainland is just a complete rip-off. I don't see how the DVLANI could justify a 50% surcharge?

So in order to tax a vehicle one must now go to the Post Office?

How where you doing it until now ?
Theres quite a few post offices that do car tax near me , most 5-10mins drive. The nearest tax office was in the Gasworks Ormeau Road , 20mins away through city centre traffic with no decent parking, and if you find a space you have to pay for it.

    Where's this?

Looks like all the Belfast ones offer it.

    What extra?

currently do we need to transfer it to a car in england and then transfer to NI ????
  • Transfer of registration numbers whether GB to NI, NI to GB, GB to GB or NI to NI all will cost £80 (this will not change),
however, NI customers will be able to 'retain' the number - no need to physically attach to vehicle.

The DVLA computer system is terrible - NI has more superior system which works well but unable to handle the amount DVLA would have on its system.

ALSO NOTE MOT TESTING AND DRIVER LICENSING is NOT being transfer as both are devolved to the NI assembly - therefore, those looking forward to getting cheaper driver licences will not be so happy.

Sorry for being ignorant abt this. But are you saying we can buy a resgitration from here (the price include £80.00 transfer fee) http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/search/ and put it on NI registered car. Somewhere I read that this has to be first transferred to a car in mainland befor it can put on a car in NI
