    Morning everyone.

I desperately need some culinary advice please.

We have got visitors for dinner on Saturday night (informal, nothing posh) :T - one is a friend of my eldest and also her friend - they are staying locally so we thought we would have them around for dinner. But basically we have no idea of their likes or dislikes and we have only met the friend once so we are keeping the menu simple - no haute cuisine

One is a vegetarian which is not a problem as I don't eat much meat anyway so its 2 vegetarians and 2 meat eaters.

I thought maybe OH would do his shepherds pie from scratch and also something easy vegetarian for us 2 veggies but along similar lines

I wondered about getting a vegetarian pasta bake but looking at marks ones they all have meat in them. So I then thought of the lovely vegetable pasta bake in the Tesco dine in for a tenner meal.

What do the cooks on the group think?

Also what to go with things - garlic bread, side salad, some roasted sweet potatoes, parsnips etc - ?????

Then there are the desserts. I want to make a choice of puds in advance, ideally 2 - things I can warm in the microwave or cold desserts.

My initial thoughts are rhubarb and ginger crumbles in small ramekins - would these be OK if I made them today - I could at least make the crumble mix and put it in the fridge. But I was also trying to think of something chocolate, maybe a mousse but I don't want to do anything with uncooked eggs.

I suppose 2 meal deals is the easy solution but that seems too lazy and I want at least part of the menu to be home made from scratch. But I suppose I could do 2 lasagne, one veggie and one not plus garlic bread and roast vegetables plus homemade desserts

Nigella would have no problems sorting this out ...

Can't go wrong with a nice veggie lasagne. I like beanfeast bolognaise flavour available in packets like a sauce mix. One pack serves 2 so ideal. Could add all usual then ie tin of toms, cheese. This way everyone eats same if you do a meat version and you could go with all the obvious sides. Hth x
Cherish those you have in your life because you never know when they won't be there anymore.

No matter how you feel, get up, dress up & never give up.

Desrperatley trying to sell the baby stuff off as defo no more of them! But I think I may have 99% convince hubby to get a pup! My problem is like all things I want the best so if I can raise enough money selling the baby stuff I might be able to soften the blow of a puppy.:o

Oh how lovely, a week on monday we get our puppy, I am so excited.:j:j:j:j

There were large packs of t crinkle cut chips as well reduced to £1.05 I think but as I don't buy these, I didn't take too much notice.

Lots of the finest beef joints around at £13 per kg and not at £6.50 ;) Look at the small boxed joints - yesterday all had sel of half price - £6.50 but only one store had them marked down.
