Please don't feed the troll everyone.

Take a look at Daves past posting history to see what kind of poster he is.

    A well thanked one.

Find out if the car is a danger without whatever was missing and you may have a chance of reporting it. I'm under the belief (but dont quote me) that if a car is a danger to drive then the garage has to keep it. Like when you have an MOT - the garage isnt allowed to let you drive away with it if it is a danger.
If your car needed this item and they let you drive away without it, they would be breaking the law. You could always put this on them.

On another note - by the sounds of it. You need to change your garage!!! :D

no - the part I found missing would not be a danger to drive the car, but over time could probably damage the engine as I guess the filter is there to filrt out all the rubbish going into the engine.

If it's only there for a service they won't check all the trivial things.

If you haven't got anything useful to say, why bother - get a life.

Your not a main dealer service manager are you ?

Slap a court order on them. I'm sure it would suddenly appear again :)

Could I do that - do you have any advice? Do I sue them for negligence?

Interestingly apart from having posters advertising that all their mechanics are highly trained, they also advertise that they comply with a quality system - it would be interesting to see what it says about carrying out work properly, checking it and replacing missing bolts - probably not a word.

To those who have suggested changing dealer - I've already decided that, but I'll run out of them soon. So far I've been dissatisfied with everyone I've dealt with.
