Tesco Direct won't take responsibility for out of warranty Samsung TV

Hi,
Wondered if anyone with experience of Tesco Direct and their faulty electronics helpline could help with this.
My girlfriend bought a Samsung LCD TV in July 2012 from Tesco Direct. The TV has worked fine up until yesterday, when it refused to even turn on. We've eliminated obvious causes (remote, power cable, mains socket etc.).
Our problem is that when she called Tesco Direct (on various occasions) they insisted on sending her through to Samsung, even when she asked to speak to a (Tesco) supervisor. They would not take any responsibility, despite the fact that a TV should be expected to last 5 years or so (not less than 2 years) and therefore they are liable to repair or replace under the Sale of Goods Act.
On speaking to Samsung, they gave her the name of a repair centre but told her it would be a paid repair (as the TV is out of warranty). They also refused to transfer her back to Tesco.
Has anyone managed to find a way around this? Or do we need to submit a written complaint?

As you are beyond 6 months from purchase, you will need to get a independent report done, if the report states the fault was inherant then you can pursue Tescos and include the cost of the report, if the fault wasnt inherant then you will have to pay for the repair0

That is not a fact, but an assumption.0 -

^ This is correct. Also you have no contract with Samsung.0 -
Contact the repair centre to get a fault report done only. If that shows that the fault is inherent to manufacture than you can use this to get a remedy out of Tesco. They should also reimburse you for the cost of the report (which should be no more than £30-£50)0
