thinking of trying to book a late holiday for the 4 of us, hopefully all inclusive. My daughter will be just turned 17, I was wondering if she would qualify for the alcoholic drinks?

Depends on where you are going, and the law for that particular country.Gone ... or have I?0

Generally no, as she is under 18yrs. She will get a different colour wristband from those who are 18 and over, so there will be no mistake in serving her.
I'm sure that all AI would go by the 18 to drink rule, unless in US where it is 21.0 -
you can drink in spain at the age of sixteen but don't know if it applies to english kids0

It does. A young person can drink alcohol in a country according to the laws of that country, not their home country.
But surely booking your holiday from a country where they abide by 18+ drinking laws, the hotel would have to follow that law???
In France it was 14yrs if I remember rightly and that would be a total shock to go with your kids, where behind your back they could get served alcohol!
(although we went on a school skiing trip and gt served in a pub when we went on our own at 14.....)
Interesting subject- but I am sure that the 16 and 17 year olds were not allowed in Majorca when we went a month ago? Perhaps they asked their parent's permission first?0 -
We went to Mexico earlier this year, and the staff in charge of the wrist bands were dishing out the adult ones to almost anyone who asked for them. We noticed several children who appeared to be in their mid teens wearing adult bands and being served alcohol.0

dmg24's right it's the law in the country your're in that counts not where you come from, that's why the Dominican is so popular with young americans who cant get served at home. As to what band you get It's going to depend on who's on reception when you check in and how old your kids actually look. I took my 2 17 year olds to the dominican a couple of years ago and asked for them to be given adult bands which was no problem. In my opinion It's better for them to have responsibility and ground rules for what they drink rather that looking for 18 year olds with wristbands on the sly to get them drinks who the have only just met.:beer:0

The hotel may have it's own rules, read the small print before booking.
Don't they provide the weakest drink free anyway?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
We've just come back from Barbados, and we were all given the same colour bands regardless of age.0

How would they police that? They would have to ask customers to prove the nationality before they could order a drink and then check up what the law is for that country, which would be a bit silly!
The law in the country you are visiting will apply to all customers regardless of where they come from. Here I go again on my own....0
