I have no idea, they are the maximum it said, so don't know when they were from.

At the moment, I am looking on here and doing a backup at the same time Current temperature on Core 1 is ranging from 57 - 59 deg and Core 2 is ranging from 55 - 57 deg
    Is that not good then?

If you are doing a backup that looks fine. What CPU do you have?

Its just cut off again. When I tried to restart, it went into Startup repair. All the tests said successful with no error codes but when it came up 'Route cause found' it says - unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem.

Then the last check was 'Sys files integrity check & repair' Result failed error code - 0 x 490

It was in the middle of doing a Back up, should I start it again?

See if you can complete the back up. You could then try a System restore to a time before the problem started.

There was nothing that said I could restart it so had to start again from beginning.
It cut off again though before it had got very far.
If I do a system restore and it cuts off half way through, what will happen? Will it mean a total recovery or will it still be useable?

It is almost certainly a hardware issue - it's just about impossible for software to throw up these kinds of issues these days.

Can you keep the machine on for long enough to back up the important stuff - your documents etc (forget program files, temp folders, old videos you've downloaded etc, just get the stuff that matters)?

Then are you brave enough to open up the laptop and see if it's got pet fur/dust inside? If it has, you need to hold the fan so it won't rotate (it can create back-EMF which could cause other problems) then blow/suck it all out. Whilst you're in there, look for loose connectors and *carefully, antistatically* try re-seating the RAM (heating and cooling of a system may have made it work ever so slightly loose, especially in a cheaper laptop).

What temps were you showing just before switch off? As paddy says, most likely hardware. I still think it's overheating, so a clean up inside wouldn't do it any harm. It could point to a PSU problem as well.
However, before that I would try a system restore first, just because of the error code you got.
If after a restore it continues and you are technically unsure about opening it up, find a local repair shop and ask them to look at it, although I doubt it's beyond your capabilities.
It's probably a case of elimination now.

Laptop has been on about an hour, I was only reading something on here, not typing anything so have it propped up on one corner letting lots of air flow under it and it has just cut off again. I felt underneath and it is really cool, so doubt the overheating, don't know the temperature it was working at as haven't put the Core temp program back on.
I backed it up yesterday and also did system restore back to 25/03 which was before I had the problem, there were not many dates to go back to as it had done an automatic restore each time I uninstalled and reinstalled i-player. I looked on the windows 7 forums and it was mentioned to do a clean boot, do you think this would do anygood, it was for the same error code but someone not being able to install something, they said to do a clean boot, install it than go back to normal boot.
I haven't tried cleaning the fan yet as I was hoping the system restore would cure it. I am worried that if I start a system restore and it only gets so far through then cuts out, I won't be able to use it without doing a full recovery.
