Oh go on... Just as an aside. What is your view? Do you not think raising interest rates = less afforability = lower prices then? The thread has served it's purpose anyway and I am sincerly interested in your view.

I'm no longstanding "bear" btw. It's only in the last few months I've started to think it's all about to go pop.

I think that rising house prices cannot be sustained. I do not think we have hit reverse gear yet.

I do not know what has given you the impression that I support or expect rising prices.

Hi all......... The reason we've decided to pull out is because, as far as talking through the issues with the surveyor were concerned, he listed 4 main issues.

Only two of those have been addressed. The other two (asbestos and load bearing wall) are going to incur yet more costs to have them looked at, let alone the possible cost implications depending on the results.

I can hand on heart say I'm not all that worried AT ALL about the other issues he mentioned in the report.

We were considering putting the work quoted by the EA's on a 0% Credit card, but in reality, that isn't the only cost that we will have to worry about and it's all a bit too much to be honest.

I have seen 2 bed, 2 reception properties in the area at around £215,000 (we had our offer of this 2/3 bed accepted at £214,000) The surveyor actually referred to the 'third bedroom' as a storeroom! Never the less, we won't be looking anymore, there isn't anything else in this price range, which has also left me in a panic before we got to this decision.

I was thinking 'ugh, gotta buy it anyway and hope it doesn't crumble around our ears as we can't get anything else' and that's not clear thinking, that's panic and desperation.

I spoke with a friends husband last night and he was also concerned about the wall being removed, which has lead (or possibly lead) to the upstairs floor being very springy.

I have spoken to many many people about this and it's a very hard decision to make, when literally half people are saying, 'go ahead and hope for the best', while others are saying 'run Charlene run' LOL. I'm not a property expert, but I feel I have made this decision after a lot of thought.

I'm glad you've reached a decision you're happy with. I think you're probably right, it's just a shame that you don't have ample opportunity to find somewhere else right now. I did wonder whether you were going to buy at all after this one. :o
