Praise: ao.com

Used ao.com for the first time the other day.

Order placed for a washing machine online - best price I could find + quidco cashback

Was able to select the day I wanted delivery without extra charges (and was able to select a day they were already delivering in the area)
Got sent a text the day before giving me a 2 hour window for delivery (7am-9am)
Got a phone call 5 mins before the 2 hour slot to say they'd be 5 mins
Turned up at 7am
Had installed and tested the appliance by 7:15 and had gone!

Would certainly use them again - great all round service.
Only downer was the call the next day, which seemed to be a follow-up / courtesy call, but was actually a call to get me to buy extended warranty - grr

I have to agree with the above post, we got our machine a couple of years ago from Appliances online and received great service......then a few marketing calls for the extended warranty.
    But overall really pleased.
  • I also just bought a washing machine from AO.com and all went well but they really did push the warranty big time. Told them 4 times i did not want it.

The warranties are probably where they get their profit.
  • Just hope your appliance doesn't go wrong! (which to be fair, they are usually very reliable)...

However, in my experience of AO, their customer service was shockingly bad! We bought an electric cooker from them in September 2013 and within 15 days one of the rings became defective.

So we called them up and asked them to remedy, sadly on the day we rang, the computers were not working so they took my number and promised to phone me back. Of course they never did, so when I rang them again, I was told they had no details of my fault. I accept I was perhaps overly annoyed so told them they should come and collect the cooker as i was now rejecting it. They insisted that i couldn't and countered by offering to send out an engineer to fix it (and presumed I would take the day off for free!).

I did ask AO would they pay my costs to be available for the engineer, and although originally agreeing to, they then subsequently changed their minds.

So, I sent them my Letter before Action, declined the opportunity to mediate and quel surprise, they offered to settle which included my time off work to allow them to collect their cooker.

The outcome was that the consequential costs of their failure was just over £300 on top of the cost of the cooker.

Lets hope that customer services are better for everyone else.

to be fair vomityspice - I wouldn't expect any better from the likes of Currys either - not that that makes it right of course!
  • Just bought a washing machine from AO and like most others, very impressed with service, price, delivery etc etc. Yes, I got the warranty call a day later. As my previous machines developed problems early in their life I thought it wasn't such a bad deal... Just over £5.00 per month guarantees you a new washing machine (of your choice I was told) when your machine from AO comes to the end of its life, or breaks down, then all parts, labour and call ourr charges are covered. For well used machines, like washing machines/dryers, I felt this was a good deal..especially if you get to choose a new machine of your choice

I also used AO for the first time recently. I needed a new fridge, had looked at various online suppliers, argos, tesco direct etc, but 5-10 days delivery was the best that seemed on offer, or pay a premium for 3 day delivery and a weeks a long time to be without a fridge in this hot weather.
So I looked at AO. Must admit I was quite sceptical but I ordered a fridge Saturday evening for free delivery the next day, on a Sunday.
Text at 7am as promised with mobile number & name of driver who updated us during the day on the time of delivery so we didn’t have to sit around all day.
Fridge arrived exactly as promised, next day free delivery on a Sunday!
Outstanding in my opinion, and I've had no calls for extended warranty.
Would recommend there service & delivery.

I've had a washing machine from them, initially ordered wrong one but order changed no problems.

Very happy, so for kitchen refit bought hob, fridge freezer, double oven and cooker hood. Great service, delivery, helpful when I mislaid 1 of my invoices (sent it again and posted a copy as well).

Only advertise items when IN STOCK so no runaround with vague delivery dates, you pick & they turn up, can even have 'next day' & Sunday. Calls, emails, texts - loads of info re arrival times etc.

Can watch on-line video's of how product works, will answer questions in the Q&A or over the phone.

Got better service & more product knowledge from them than I've ever had in Curry's.

Even got a great returns policy if you don't like the look of the product once delivered. NO marketing of extended warranty received by me.

AO (Appliances On-line) for me all the way.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

I purchased a TV but found it to have a very poor picture quality. I tried all over the bank holiday weekend to rectify this playing with the settings but i and friends had little success.

Within 4 days of delivery I asked so.com for a refund as I thought it was very poor but was told in no uncertain terms sorry but no. That's unless I agree to a 55% charge.
Are they in there rights to totally refuse me a full refund and not the 55% version if I think the quality of the goods is very poor ?

Yeah there is a whole department for AO that just pushes and sells warranties! I use to work in telesales selling warranties for a large well known catalogue company, they were pretty easy to sell and I could recite the sales patter in my sleep! It was an awful job though, saying the same thing over and over again for several hours a day!
