Morning all!
So much has happened here as I mentioned above. As well as this my sister came back from Germany and stayed for a month. She has babysat lots of evenings while we painted and organised and moved our in laws into their new place!
She has gone back this morning (my husband should be back from luton around lunchtime).
Which is why I feel the need to get my pennies in order and update this diary. Our big plan savings have been up and down as we have saved hard but spent lots too on things needed for our work. Still lots to buy and our first thing was paid by the in laws last week, therefore the loan figure has started!
Current state of play:
My A/c (my spends) : £104.12
My purse (my spends) : £7.40
Husband A/c (his spends) : £154.94
Clip purse (this weeks food) : £10.85
Divider purse:
Food £40pw x 3 : £120
Food x 3 days at end of month : £20
Fritter money : £40
Nappies/Wipes : £10
TOTAL : £190
Fuel (in a/c) : £110
Big plan savings in bank : £710.62
Big plan savings cash tin : £114.40
Mortgage balance : £87948.42
Owed to inlaws £-861.00
(all other bills saved for in bill account and budgeted to the smallest catergory but far too many to list!)
Savings:
£1500 savings to fix roof
£2500 emergency fund.
So that's where we are at the moment.
We need to buy a 2nd car, a cooker, a radiator for the new bathroom, a sink and worktop for the utility, a bed for my daughter and much more.
The loan from the in laws was to pay for new patio doors (we had to make a window into a back door in our side due to the annexe).
To be added onto the loan will be the builder quote £4400, the plumber and electrician (awaiting quotes) plus carpets, tiles etc.
Hoping to pay for paint and all the odds and ends as they crop up through savings here and there.
Todays plan is to make a note of what food we have in throughout my cupboards, fridge and freezer. We have been buying food for us and my sister so all a bit higgledy piggledy.
Tonight we will be watching the recorded BTCC and having a Chinese as a treat. I will write my meal plan using my store tonight when we do that. I promised my husband I would pay for a treat takeaway as he was doing lots of driving today to luton and back and then this afternoon we need to go to the bungalow to do more measuring etc ready for the builder tomorrow.
Speak tomorrow

Update post :-)
Written a list of all the food we have in various cupboards, fridge and freezer. Will do meal plan tonight.
Cancelled RAC renewal for £90.05 with existing member discount.
Took out a new policy (same cover) with RAC through quidco for £84.99. Should get £40 cashback.
Budgeted £84 for this so will find the extra £1 somewhere to cover the debit card payment and then the £40 cashback can go into savings when it arrives.

Morning all,
We currently owe my inlaws £816. We know the building work will cost £4400 and we have just agreed the plumbers quote for £2600 this means that the total we know we will owe will be £7816 plus the electricians quote which we are waiting for. And then there is all the other stuff.... Tiles, carpets, paint etc.
Scary figures but I'm assured by my husband it will all be ok.
I am determined to pay as much as we can through our savings and through spending less throughout the month. Of course as soon as we are in we will try and make savings to over pay what we owe and get it paid off ASAP.
Feeling slightly overwhelmed with the figures, but if know we are doing the right thing and we will get there :-)2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

So far I have estimated that we will owe the in laws just over £12k. We should be able to get the final figure by the end of Sept.
There has been a few grumps amongst the family so I have decided to slap my war paint on and fight back, he best way I know how. I believe that family members think that we will not pay the in laws back so instead of paying them back the £300 our budget says we can afford and it taking 3.75 years. I want to do it in two! I have worked out how this is possible and will update here accordingly.
As soon as we have a clean slate and we have proved our point then we will start overpaying the mortgage with the same gung-ho attitude!
Watch this space! I am going to start with a grocery challenge in September and an attempt to pay for as much ourselves as possible so we start owing as little as possible (will still be around that figure!).
I will update with more figures tonight.
