Would you negotiate for anything else in this situation?

I bought a new car last Friday and got a good deal, including some money off the car and a good part x for my current car.

The dealer is keen for me to take delivery before the end of the month so they can include it in their year end figures and they were confident they could get me a car in the colour I wanted.

I've just had a call from them letting me know that it's proving a bit more difficult to find a car in the colour I have chosen and if they can't find one they will have to order it. Now I don't mind waiting at all but my husband thinks they might throw something else in if I am flexible with the colour (as long as I can live with it!) the dealer did double check that it's definitely the colour that I want so I guess they are willing to try to get it in their figures.

Anyway, would you contact them to ask what colours they do have and what they could offer me as an incentive? Not guaranteed to take them up on all offers as there are some colours I don't want (sorry I am a girl) but hubby thinks its worth it.

What have you got to lose by not asking them? Sometimes the easiest thing is the thing to do.;)

Definitely worth asking what they'll do. If there's a colour or two you'd prefer as a second choice, then tell them.

Might email him to ask as I'm not great negotiating face to face/ on the phone. Wonder what I can ask for though...

Emailing takes too long. Get the dealer on the phone and negotiate hard!!

You may want to keep in mind the value when you want to sell it. Certain colours are more desirable than others. Any small gain now could be outweighed later on.

Good point. What are the most/ least favourable colours for resale?

Ask in three years time for anything more than a guess...

A car is your second biggest purchase so what you should not do is take second best to keep someone else happy. However if a medium blue instead of a dark blue is OK and they offer you something you want, perhaps it is parking sensors or leather seats or a different engine, then consider it. Remember that options don't usually cost them that much but missing their targets could be big money to the dealership.

So get the brochure out, decide what colours are a possibility and what goodies good consider in compensation, including a further discount.

    Avoid brown, green, pink.

    Maroon is always popular.

This was true 3 years ago and is still true today :D

Metallic colours, blue, gray/silver. Black is not everybodys cup of tea.

Avoid white, especially big cars, looks like a cheap ex-police car from an auction. Or am I living in the past? :)

I've had a car in pillarbox red in similar circumstances to yours, where I got a decent discount for taking what they had available. It sold okay but again isn't everyone's cup of tea.
