How will State Pension affect DLA & SDA

Hope I am in the right area of the forum!

In 4 mths, I will begin receiving the State Pension. For the last 18 years I have been receiving DLA and SDA and am confused over how they will be affected by the State Pension. Too many hours have been wasted trawling through GOV websites so I wondered if anyone here has been in the same situation.

I need a clear & concise explanation as I have problems with concentration and memory.

I have requested a Pension Statement but doubt that will answer my query.

Any help would be gratefull received.

DLA has no impact on state pension. DLA is a non-income based benefit paid due to care and /or mobility needs.

SDA will however cease as the state pension becomes payable.
    Pension credit might be payable.

If you get anyone "helpfully" telling you that you have to stop claiming DLA once you reach pension age, tell them they are wrong!

Thank you. Would the Pension Service know about the SDA and issue the pension credit or would I have to chase it up?

I hate having to think about all this and wish it would go away. I am considering contacting my local CAB to see if there is someone to help me.

Yes, I have been told that I will be called for PIP, too, even though my DLA was "indefinite". Just something else to worry about.

Me too, I have spina bifida and worked till 2011 where I took early retirement because of the government cutbacks. My award was indefinite aswell.

PIP is just the newer version of DLA.

I know of several people who were told that they had to go on to Attendance Allowance once they reached pension age. They gave up their claim to DLA and forever lost their entitlement to the mobility component.

SDA should give you the NI credits for the years you have claimed it towards your State Pension.

Your pension statement will give you the amount of pension you are projected to get on retirement and the numbers of years you have been credited with. Plus any additions for graduated amounts.

Did you work before claiming SDA and were you opted in or out of the SERPS pension scheme?

In total the current number of years NI contributions you need for the full basic state pension is 30

As already said DLA should continue after State Pension age and you may be entitled to Pension Credits on top, which is a separate claim from the State Pension.
