Car insurance if you've been a named driver?

After years of being a 1 car household, we are now a 2 car household as my husband has a new job where he needs to drive to work.

He has been a named driver on our family car. We have 7 years no claims discount.

However, obviously now I'm struggling to find insurance for him on his new car as it doesn't seem to count that he's been driving the family car for years with no accidents as he was only a named driver.

Our existing insurer will 'link' the insurances for a fairly reasonable cost, but for some bizarre reason I wouldn't be able to insure my dad to drive the family car any more as it has to be just the insured+spouse on both cars. He doesn't drive our car often, but with 2 young children it can be very useful to have him on the insurance.

We have moved insurer every year to get a good price, which doesn't seem to help my current problem!

So, does anyone know of any insurers that would take a named driver's no claims into account?

Thank you very much in advance.

ND NCD is a promotion that only a few insurers offer and then they are only honoured if they were earned with themselves - nice way to tie you in.

Do quotes online with the 0 years NCD, many insurers/ brokers give an introductory discount in situations like this and these are applied automatically (subject to vehicle, age and history) so the price you see is the price with any discount.

It may be worth calling a few of the cheaper ones on the outside chance that they'll do something for you. Historically insurers did used to mirror NCDs across but it is fairly rare these days.
