in Water bills
Hi,
We have just had our metered bill for 16th September 2013 - 19th March 2014, 51p credit.
We only moved into this house on 16th September and we told Southern Water the meter reading over the phone when we moved in and they read the meter on 19th March according to the bill.
It is a three bedroom detached house that we rent. Two adults, one nearly 3 year old. We're in the house a lot, work from home some of the time etc.
Our monthly Direct Debit was £48.10.
From next month they are making it £33.50.
There is a 'your water use' graph on the bill and it says we used an average of 270 litres a day over the last seven months. More than 'your last bill' and 'this time last year' on the graph.
I wouldn't expect the Direct Debit to be reduced?

If you keep up that rate of consumption(270 litres a day) you will use just under 100 cubic metres a year, which is well below average for 3 occupants.(average is 150 to 170 pa)
Using that figure of 100 cubic metres you can calculate your expected annual bill from the prices on their website.0 -
Sorry! Mystery solved about why the Direct Debit is going to be £33.50 and no longer needs to be £48.10.
Instead of us charging us a nice and simple one off payment specifically for the final months in our previous home so we started in this house at zero Southern Water instead decided to transfer the £86.85 to the current property's account and then divided the amount in six and gave us a figure of £48.10 per month Direct Debit.
Now they have had the old money it moves to £33.50 per month Direct Debit for six months and that works out to be 50 cubic metres of water.
Thanks for the helpful info about the 270 litres per day, cubic metres and the average figures.0
