Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

I will respectfully disagree that 20 seconds can make ANY difference.

Unless your house is soaked with gasoline, the time from the alarm to any actually significant fire is 5-10 minutes at the very least. Because the alarm is supposed to go off at the first sign of smoke - possibly even before there is any fire as smoke preceeds fire...
The fact that most people are scared of a fire, doesn't make it any more dangerous than it actually is.

And in any case, it's up to me what I put in my house, so it was a legitimate question.

This would actually be very nice (a stop button) and many alarms come with it! To stop it if it reacts to burnt toast...

You are obviously labouring under the impression that it`s the fire that kills , when in fact , its the smoke that gets you first , which is why the smoke alarm needs to be at full volume , straight off

I do hope and pray you dont have anyone in your care

^^ This. You're dead long before the flames start lapping at your feet.

yes and we have all given our legitimate opinions that such a product is extremely unlikely to exist for obvious reasons!

I was reading recently about how they used to burn people at the stake - which I've always thought must be a particularly horrible and painful way to go. Apparently in the majority of cases, the "witch" or whoever was dead from inhaling smoke / fumes long before the flames reached their body.

    So yes, seconds count !

I wouldn't like to be living next door to the person, who has these gentle, 'itchy kichy koo', 'cuddly duddly' smoke alarms fitted. I would hope my neighbour would get the hell out asap and knock my door down to get out too !

The world has gone mad !

It has to be a wind up.
You're worried about being woken up suddenly, when your house is on fire!

I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
