Biggest and best mpv?

I currently have a 07 plate Grand Picasso but, with the seven seats in use there is virtually no boot space. Can anyone suggest a 7 seater, with decent boot space (for pram etc) when all the seats are in use? I have been looking at the Grand Voyager, which seems to fit the bill, but I'm a bit dubious about its reliability and running costs. I went to see a Galaxy today, which has a bigger boot than the C4 but, I'm not convinced I'm gaining much for the money (£18k for a 13 plate). My head now hurts with all the difference permutations, age, mileage, cost, space, running costs. Can anyone make the decision for me, or throw another suggestion at me? I've kind of ruled out the more van like options, ie Hyundai i800 and Merc Viano, as my wife still wants a 'car' and not a transit with seats! Help!!

You can't get a quart of out of a pint pot. MPVs based on car running gear simply aren't long enough to have good boot space.

So, you either need to think about ease of the back seats flipping out for the majority of time it is not fully loaded. You could give consideration to roof boxes, but they are a pain to use on a high vehicle.

Loads of mums round here love their VW Transporters.

Check out the space in this rather large gem. I have no idea what they are like to be honest but there seem to be ALOT of space....

As I thought though, expensive to tax at almost £500 a year, I wonder if the pre 2006 manual is a better tax bracket...

    How about this Ssangyong Turismo.

Was looking around one at the Camping and Caravan show the other week, it has the biggest boot I have ever seen on a seven seater and seemed well equipped and not too cheaply built considering the price.

I take car reviews with a pinch of salt but TopGear magazine give it 1 out of 10! It doesn't fair much better in other reviews I've read so I've ruled it out.
  • Went through all this 5 years ago and ended up with a Grand Voyager.

Parts availability and cost has improved even since I bought ours, biggest outlay was when the timing belt went.

Get over to here and have a look.

If i wanted a Galaxy i would buy an ex AddLee one.

Purely due the fact they are the cheapest 3 yr old Galaxy Auto you will find.

Have seen the Hyundai i800 things for sale (at CarGiant) on 12 plate. All with around 40k. But i think they may be ex Europcar.

60 plate auto with about 90k on the clock fully serviced every 10k and only ever fitted with Hankook tyres after the first set wear out and only ever had Ford parts and approved fluids isn't a bad deal.

    Interiors wear well.

Could usually do with a set of shocks to make the car feel a bit younger.

Priced around mid £8k to low £9k depending on miles.

I personally think the Galaxy is a very good mpv.

If you get one with the Powershift box they will do over 50mpg on a run at 70.

I averaged 45mpg over 20k in one back in 2012.

Expect 10mpg less with the earlier traditional autobox.

Changeover time was 2011. I had an 11 plate with a powershift box.

My sister is on her second late shape diesel Galaxy. First was one of the first. Current one is a 62plate. They had a Alhambra 1.8T before that bought new in 2001.

They find the current Galaxy to be big enough for 4 kids and luggage. Though they have a roof box for extra stuff if needed.

If your wife wants a car based MPV then you may as well give in now and get one, and get a trailer and a roof box for luggage.

I'm friends with 2 families, each have 5 kids (aged 6-13).

One family have a Toyota Corolla Verso with a roofbox.
Other currently has Galaxy with roofbox but are looking for a VW Transporter.

Have you looked at the Ford Torneo connect? not sure if it meets your needs but ive heard they're pretty big, but unsure if based on a van chassis?

Failing that, i remember when in New York 2 years ago my wife and i booked a car to take us from hotel to la Guardia airport (not much more expensive that taxi, but came to hotel at pre-agreed time rather than standing in a queue!). We were expecting a Lincoln Town Car but this massive SUV came (a Lincoln if my memory serves me correct). I helped the guy put our cases in the massive boot, i got into the back of the car to realise that there were 3 rows of seats. I had a conversation with the driver about it, due to my shock at the size of the vehicle, and how we have few cars in europe that can fit 7 people and their luggage, it's usually one or the other...
  • VW T5 I would say is the best bet as even though it is a van, they are a bit more car like to drive and hold their value really well.

Alternatively, I'd sell some kids off
