Car Hire Excess Insurance?

Hi all
I will be hiring a car in New Zealand for a week, but the hire companies' full insurance is very expensive. I've had a quote for stand alone excess insurance from worldwide insure.com via the MSE link. Has anyone used these or can recommend a reliable company?
I've not bought this type of insurance before so any advice would be appreciated.

The problem with using these companies is that the car hire firm will often request a massive deposit if you don't take out their own CDW policy.
Last time I didn't take a firm's own is was €600.0 -
I use insurance4carhire, never had to claim but they seem to have a good reputation. They also cover a lot of things which are often excluded from car hire company's excess policy (eg loss of keys, wrong refuelling etc). Some car hire companies even exclude tyres, roof, underside from their expensive excess insurance!
The car hire company will usually reserve the excess on the card, so you need to have sufficient credit limit for this.0
