OP, why would the bin have to be on the pavement for 2 days? Can't it go out the night before they're due to collect? What does everyone else in the area do?0

You've misread the OP ... leaving them there for 2 days is not the normal process, but applied for the missed collection - OP was told they would be collected within 2 days.0 -
The bin men of today have a hard job don't they... not.
Where I live, if they cannot pull a bin to the lorry with one hand they do not take it as it is too heavy!!!!!.
I remember when bin men hoisted a metal dustbin from your garden on their shoulders! (they then changed to "rubber" bins before the wheelie bins) now that was a hard job, glad those days are gone though as they must have suffered with back and shoulder problems, the job is a lot easier now.0 -

I thought they said they'd come in two days (as in on Weds if he called Mon) rather than within? Mind, you could interpret that either way!0 -
1) The bin must not be on your own property. Binmen are not authorized to come onto your property to fetch a bin.
2) The bin must not be placed on the pavement, as it will cause an obstruction.
3) The bin must not be placed on the road, as it will cause an obstruction.
I have had an issue with my bin, basically I cant put in on the street as its a steep hill and the pavement is only just wide enough for someone to walk down. My drive is flat and 45cm from the side of the road and sometimes they wont take my bin (only my garden rubbish bin the rest are handled by another depot) from the drive, I even stick the bins at the edge facing the right way.
Anway, I complained to council and now have a letter from their head of services telling me to put my bin on the pavement, which would totally block it. Next time they don't collect that letter is going to the chief exec at the council and the local papers, I cant believe they could be so inept as to tell me to break both their own rules, and do something which would have a negative impact on pedestrians. I have had enough of dealing with idiots at the council, you know they even complained that when they turned up, unannounced, there was nobody there to show them the problem!0 -

What do you mean "You Googled this"? You Googled contents of a phone call I made to Coventry Council? Really?
As if they would publish a set of bonehead contradictory rules like that ...
You can "recon" what you like. I didn't say the rules made sense. But this is what a Coventry Council jobsworth told me during the course of trying to find out why they didn't collect the bins (mine AND a neighbours) of a course of multiple collections.
See Cardinalbiggles post above, it's the sort of bonehead thing councils come out with.0 -
The rules were :-
1) The bin must not be on your own property. Binmen are not authorized to come onto your property to fetch a bin.
2) The bin must not be placed on the pavement, as it will cause an obstruction.
3) The bin must not be placed on the road, as it will cause an obstruction.
Sadly, if you combine these three rules, there is NOWHERE that a bin can be placed that satisfies these "rules". My property, pavement, road. That's everything covered. In reality, whichever position you put it in, they have a rule which says they don't collect it from there.0 -
Bins must be placed within two metres of the front boundary of the property by 6.30am on the scheduled day of collection. If you don't leave your bin out in this way, we'll record it as 'not out' and not empty it.
from their website
where do I stand ?0 -
Put em on the sidewalk then. Not your problem if people can't pass. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

I am decided to do nothing about this. just put the rubbish outside until it will be a mountain of rubbish (my door is on the side of the property).
I am not moving the bins from their location, when there will be a mountain of rubbish the tv will come ...
No seriously, I am so annoyed ....0
