Funding for a Training course

Hi all

At the moment I'm currently on ESA and on a recent interview at to the local job centre, the advisor mentioned about doing some volunteer work for some charity or I might consider undertaking a college / training course.

Thing is when the question came up about funding, it seemed to be very very vague ...

So I've come way, dont the ask... contacted numerous places about doing volunteer work to be told.. " isn't it better that you get well first other than trying to do this work whilst in pain "...:o

Then I contacted a local college and there as vague as the job centre was... So where is and how do I get the training for a course..... any ideas

They should be able to give you a list of courses that there is funding for - alternatively check your local colleges site and see what they give fee-remission for (although the norm would be income-based benefits)

Someone asked a while back about HGV-type courses whilst they were on JSA and had a job offer if they got through it but they were advised there was no funding (I doubt it will have changed) I would have said the other person was in a better position as they were fit for work and actually had a job to go to so had more of a business case

    Hi
I would get further advice from the adviser. They need to consider whether you have some relevant experience AND your chances of getting employment before agreeing to funding anything. If it's very different from your previous work experience you are unlikely to ever get funded, as they are not there to fund career changes (sorry can't put this in a nicer way:))and we all know people who have qualifications with no experience who have been looking for work for a long time.

As with regards to lists of courses they fund this is unlikely, due to them changing daily, unless it is very quick basic course, such as food hygiene, health and safety basic level, etc. The course you are considering is not basic. As the person above it is around building a strong business case. For info, I know lots of people who have been funded for the course along with a few extra's and study aid's but these have been people who were extremely likely to get that type of work due to work experience, contacts, and the local vacancies.

So the only way forward is talk to your adviser, taking into account the above.

    Good luck
