hi all been on jsa for a little while now am aged under 25 so that dont seam to work i my favour .

am after training in a new line of work the course i want to take is £960 but simply i am on jsa as i dont have sufficant funds myself .

just wondering is there any way of getting funding or even half of it and can borrow rest from family member .

i dont mind paying it back once working and have a letter from a company stating they will give me employment full time once i have said course completed .

the banks aint a option either because was advised to go see about a load from them .

Will the course be full time? As one of the conditions of claiming JSA is you must be activcly seeking full time employment. So if doing the course will mean you cant look for a full time job and do it then I doubt they will pay and you would have to come off JSA when on the course too

They do have the advisor discretionery fund where they can disperse funds for things such as new suit etc for interview so dont see why it shouldnt be used for this really or part payment as long as you provide proof but if the course is over 16 hours then your JSA entitlement will stop unfortunately and you will have to agree to pack the course in to take a suitable job if one comes up and you are successful in interview whilst attending the course

when my husband was on jsa he did a home study course we got a barcleys career development loan, you have to make sure the course takes this as barcleys pay them direct. if you ask they should have a reference number. while on jsa you can only really study in your own time. the one we did was an online course. you only pay the loan back when working and if you dont get work before you are due to pay it back you can defer until you get work google barcleys career development loan for more info
    hope this helps

anyone got any advice on this matter please

    many thanks
  • Have you spoken to anyone at JCP about it? And maybe showed them the letter promising you employment? I don't know if there is anything they could do but if you don't ask you won't get!

they basicly come up with the same exuse everytime , no funding for that course .

now myself i class that as descrimanation due to if there is funding for courses but only what they want you to have , now i have spent 6yrs at college and still cant find a job so its not like i have no qaulifications .

i asked what funding was avalible they give me list of courses to which i asked them to do job search supprise supprise no jobs avalible for those .

it's not like am asking for the tax payers to pay for it for me am more than happy to pay it back within a month of working and have letter stating full time employment once done .and could have money paid back within 6weeks .

to be honest i dont even mind paying intrest on the loan .
  • Have you talked to the finace office at the college/uni where you are hoping to do this course and see if they have a finance plan? or can defer the payment until you are in employment?

The prospective employers who you said had fofered you a job if you take this course- have you asked them if they will pay for it upfront and then deduct an amount from your pay to cover the costs?

Unless a bank loan is out of the picture due to bad credit rating/a reason the BANK won't give you a loan, then why not try and get one just to cover the costs of the course if you don't mind paying interest?

the course am wishing to do is my hgv licence so not something that goes through college .

i dont even have my own bank account as used to just use the ex,s as never had time to sort my own out and never realy needed it big mistake i no , so cant see opening a new bank account and asking for a lon going down to well to be honest :rotfl:as far as am aware i do not have a bad credit rating but neither do i have a good one because never had credit cards , finance etc .

it,s sort of catch 22 situation all over again

    many thanks
