CapitalOne Pre-Application Eligibility Check

I'm not sure how new this is, but Capital One are now offering the same pre-application eligibility check that Barclaycard and a few others are now offering.

Just another way for them to collect information then for future mail shots/junk mail. Still a good tool regardless, however it does not guarantee that you'll be accepted.

I suggest using the tool with bogus, by realistic, data to start with. Then if you want to proceed, go with the real thing.

They never miss a trick, these outfits, do they?

Umm, if you use bogus data that will not tell you anything about whether you'll be accepted

You could give a fake phone number and email

It uses HD Decisions Ltd so I get using MSE will give the same results so not sure if it gives anything extra since it still only looks at Call Credit.

Is it interrogating your credit file? If so, bogus info won't help, but if not - and I couldn't find a definitive answer online - then bogus but realistic data is a good idea.

It does a 'soft search' on your credit file. Giving bogus information is pointless.

Just to mention: I did this last week, got 'very good chance' for the Classic Extra card. Applied and got the "We'll contact you shortly".

Received letter today saying I've been accepted, and to sign and return the credit agreement.

I did sign it online when I applied, and weirdly the letter doesn't have a credit limit or APR, just the usual minimum/maximum limit.

Hopefully the card turns up sometime next week.

I've had a Progress card for many years, which is now at its lowest APR and only £800 limit, so will probably close that and use this for now on. Cashback and 0% abroad. :)
